SMC Networks' New 8-Port 10G Switch Blows Open Network Bandwidth

IRVINE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- May 11, 2005 -- New 10G Standalone Switch Provides High-Density 10G Connections in a Small, 1RU Form Factor for More Efficient Enterprise Workgroup Aggregation and Backbone Connections

SMC(R) Networks (www.smc.com), leading provider of networking solutions for the SMB/e and all the way home, today announced its first 10 gigabit switch, the TigerSwitch 10G(TM) Standalone 8-port 10G Managed L2 Switch (SMC8708L2). Available this month at an MSRP of $7,999.99, the new SMC8708L2 is an ideal solution for efficient, economical network performance improvement.

With its comprehensive set of L2/L4 features, the SMC8708L2 10G aggregator switch is designed to handle heavy traffic workgroups and power users, opening bandwidth with its non-blocking 10G switching architecture that's capable of reaching 160Gbps. Just 1RU high, it brings high-density 10G to the network in a small form factor, making it ideal for enterprise workgroup aggregation or backbone installation. Fitted with any of the available XFP transceivers, 10G SR XFP transceivers for up to 300m transmission, 10G LR XFP transceivers for up to 10km transmission, or 10G ER XFP transceivers for up to 40km transmission, the new SMC8708L2 goes the distance. And its XFP slots protect the investment with future-proofing flexibility, while the optional redundant power supply protects from unnecessary downtime.

"This 10-Gig switch is the perfect addition to our line of products for the SMB/e," said SMC Product Manager Iain Kenney. "Because of its compact size, it lets administrators bring 10G right to where its needed, whether that's at the backbone or at the workgroup. And we're excited to be the first to offer that 10G connectivity at such an affordable price point."

Great in combination with SMC's TigerStack 1000 switches with optional 10G uplink slots, the SMC TigerSwitch 1000 Stackable 24-port 10/100/1000 with 4 combo ports (SMC8724M) and TigerStack 1000 Stackable 48-port 10/100/1000 with 4 combo ports (SMC8748M), the SMC TigerSwitch 10G(TM) Standalone 8-port 10G Managed L2 Switch (SMC8708L2) is available beginning in May 2005 at an MSRP of $7,999.99. XFP transceivers, the SMC10GXFP-SR, SMC10GXFP-LR and SMC10GXFP-ER, are also available this month, priced from $2,299.99 to $8,999.99.
