BALTIMORE --(Business Wire)-- May 9, 2005 -- At this gathering of more than 2,000 attendees, Bentley Systems, Incorporated today announced that the 2005 BE Awards of Excellence ceremony takes place this evening at the Baltimore Convention Center. These awards honor the extraordinary work of Bentley users improving the world's infrastructure.
This year's ceremony will honor a record 204 nominees for awards in 33 categories in the professional portion of the program. Each nomination highlights a project that sets a benchmark for its industry, and showcases the imagination and technical mastery of the organization that created it. An additional 20 nominees will be honored in the academic portion of the program and, all told, more than 190 organizations will be recognized at the ceremony.
Final award decisions are being made by an independent jury of accomplished Bentley users and distinguished industry experts. For the first time, the jury is presiding over both the professional awards and the academic awards, which have been fully integrated into the BE Awards program.
The academic awards consist of the first annual BE Award for Educator of the Year and the student design competition. The Educator of the Year is selected on the basis of the candidate's educational background, professional experience, innovative contributions to architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) curricula, involvement in and advancement of mentoring programs, professional track record as measured by student performance, research contributions, articles published in peer-reviewed journals, and other major accomplishments in the field of AEC.
Alan L. Farkas of Washington-based management consulting firm Farkas Berkowitz & Company is serving as master of ceremonies for this gala evening. The event, which is co-sponsored by McGraw-Hill Construction, publisher of Engineering News-Record, includes introductory remarks by Group Publisher Jay McGraw.
