TELUS Mobility Launches the Audiovox 6600 Pocket PC for Email and More

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. and SCARBOROUGH, Ontario, May 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TELUS Mobility and UTStarcom Personal Communications Division (formerly Audiovox Communications Corp.), a division of UTStarcom Inc. , today announced the availability of the Audiovox PPC 6600. A powerful wireless e-mail and more device, the Audiovox PPC 6600 features Microsoft(R) Windows Mobile(TM) software for Smartphone, Bluetooth support for hands-free accessories, an integrated digital camera and video capability, expandable memory and an integrated MP3 player.

"The Audiovox PPC 6600 combines the unmatched flexibility of Microsoft Windows Mobile software for Smartphone, the high quality of Audiovox devices and the reliability and extensive coverage of TELUS Mobility's national 1X network into a compact device for e-mail, Internet access and multimedia applications," said Robert Blumenthal, vice president of products and services at TELUS.
The Audiovox PPC 6600 replicates the familiar look and feel of a Windows Mobile-based PC with a full suite of standard Windows Mobile-enabled applications, including Microsoft Pocket Outlook(R), Excel, Word, Windows Media Player, Microsoft ActiveSync(R) technology and MSN(R) Messenger.
Powered by the Intel XScale 400 MHz processor, the Audiovox PPC 6600 allows users to send and receive e-mail or text messages; view, create and edit documents; browse the Web; listen to news, music and other audio clips; and send and receive multimedia messages, such as pictures and video clips. The Audiovox PPC 6600 offers both portrait and landscape viewing modes and multiple data-input methods, including a sliding keyboard and stylus.

Business and personal wireless e-mail for the Audiovox PPC 6600 interfaces seamlessly with Microsoft(R) Exchange 2003 data and extends wireless access to the messaging, contacts and calendar applications, securely and conveniently. The device also supports Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync(R) for over-the-air synchronization of e-mail, contact and calendar information with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.
Bluetooth Capability
With Bluetooth capability, clients can use wireless headsets or hands-free car kits, or link with other Bluetooth-enabled devices to check e-mail, synchronize contact lists and calendars, or surf the Web. The Audiovox PPC 6600 delivers advanced connectivity by automatically synchronizing with Microsoft Exchange 2003 and a built-in SD I/O slot, which accepts Secure Digital, MultiMedia Card and Secure MultiMedia memory cards for viewing pictures, e-mail attachments and sharing large data files between other devices with SD I/O.
The Audiovox PPC 6600 is available at TELUS Mobility retail locations across Canada for $349.99 on a three-year contract or $749.99 with no contract.
