Charter Launches Redesigned Internet Portal With Free Content and Premium Services
ST. LOUIS, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Charter Communications Inc. has redesigned its Internet start page (http://www.charter.net/) to provide Charter High-Speed* Internet customers easy access to free content, including news, sports, entertainment, weather and e-mail; and two new subscription services: High-Speed Plus and Charter Music.

High-Speed Plus is a package of online content from such sites as Movielink, a broadband movie download service offering legal movie downloads, and AmericanGreetings.com, Clever Island, CNN NewsPass and CNN Now, Encyclopaedia Britannica, MLB.com, Shockwave.com GameBlast and weather.com(R).
Charter Music, powered by MusicNet, the leading digital music provider, enables Charter High-Speed Internet customers to stream music live to PCs, or download for playback later while offline. Charter Music customers also receive Zinio digital subscriptions to "PC Magazine" and "Sync."
"We wanted our portal to fully reflect the Charter brand, while at the same time allow our customers to customize it to their own unique needs," said Barbara Hedges, Charter Vice President of Broadband Marketing. "Previously, our site had been co-branded with MSN, and our control of the homepage was somewhat limited. The new site is fully in the control of Charter and our customers."
The cost to purchase High-Speed Plus is $7.99 per month. Charter Music is also $7.99 per month. Charter will launch a marketing campaign featuring a chance to win high-definition televisions and other prizes to encourage customers to reset their home page to Charter.net.
Ms. Hedges said the Company will provide additional features and functionality in the months ahead. Ms. Hedges said Charter chose Synacor, a provider of private-label portals and technology supporting online content, for its Internet platform and bundled content. "Synacor's platform fits well with our needs," Ms. Hedges said. "Their interface is very customer-friendly and comes with a full compliment of back office support. By leveraging Synacor's relationships with fee-based online services, we've bundled a variety of premium content and services that should prove very popular as a value add with our customers."
