EGT Launches Next Advancement in Encoding Technology At Cable-Tec; ENCORE Second Generation Video Processing Platform Offers Unparalleled Flexibility and Features

SAN ANTONIO --(Business Wire)-- June 16, 2005 -- EGT, Inc., delivering the world's best digital video experience, today announced the release of ENCORE, the company's second-generation MPEG-2 video processing platform. ENCORE offers operators a break-through solution for providing superior quality digital video to their customers while maximizing bandwidth efficiency. Designed to capitalize on EGT's latest algorithm improvements, ENCORE offers superior video quality at the lowest bit rates. This allows operators to improve their bandwidth efficiency by an additional 25%, accelerating digital simulcast and other advanced applications.

Greg Nicholson, CEO of EGT notes, "ENCORE builds on EGT's legacy of software-based encoding to provide even more efficiency, quality, flexibility and value. EGT has been listening closely to our customers and with ENCORE is responding to their needs with both the necessary capability and the unique innovation required to move our industry forward. This product is out in front."

Features and Benefits Provide Operators with Unmatched Quality

Built on a fully programmable platform, ENCORE offers four channels in a one-rack unit chassis. ENCORE is a feature rich platform, complete with fully integrated digital ad insertion (DPI) capability, internal IP-based statistical multiplexing engine and the industry's only simultaneous ASI and IP output.

In addition to these advanced features, ENCORE offers unparalleled encoding performance. Enhanced pre-processing, the most efficient MPEG-2 compression and advanced noise filtering capability give ENCORE a clear advantage. ENCORE is designed to optimize quality in both Constant Bit Rate (CBR) and CHORUS closed-loop (VBR) applications. The advanced pre-processing and innovative adaptive filtering provides a dramatic quality improvement over previous market leading encoders.

Digital Ad Insertion (DPI) Supports Additional Revenue Opportunities for Operators

ENCORE offers the industry's only completely integrated DPI solution. In addition to CableLabs-certified support for the SCTE35 DPI splice messages, ENCORE supports both DTMF and GPI (General Purpose Interface or Contact Closure) inputs, allowing operators to seamlessly bridge from analog to digital program insertion. By integrating this capability, ENCORE reduces capital expenditures and improves overall network efficiency.

Optimized Ad Insertion (DPI) in Closed-Loop Environments

With ENCORE, EGT introduces a unique technique for optimizing advanced closed-loop encoding across multiple and distributed ad-zones. This innovation is in direct response to EGT customers' growing concern over the impact that static ad-insertion architecture has on the efficiency and quality of closed-loop encoding. By optimizing the CHORUS closed-loop encoders for distributed ad insertion, EGT offers the industry's only DPI-enabled Closed-Loop VBR solution.

ENCORE Applications

-- Digital Simulcast: Allows operators to simultaneously deploy channel lineups in both analog and digital while protecting the analog customer base during the transition to the all digital network.

-- IPTV Video Transport: Allows operators to use advanced IP networks to deliver fully robust and cost effective video services over flexible and efficient IP architectures.

-- Bandwidth Reclamation: A method by which operators transition some of the analog services to the digital tier to reclaim the bandwidth for more digital channels or more revenue generating services such as high speed data or telephony.

-- Digital Conversion: A dramatic architectural change to the operator's network, digital conversion is the complete digitization of the video delivery system. Operators who perform digital conversion must shoulder the cost of a full (100%) installation of digital set top boxes at their customer's homes, but reap the benefit of enormous bandwidth flexibility.

-- IP Backhaul: Utilizes the flexibility of an IP network to transmit content between remote locations, providing a cost effective alternative to satellite distribution.
