European Debut For ZTE Next Generation W-CDMA At 3GSM World Congress
ZTE Corporation, China’s largest listed telecommunications manufacturer, is to introduce its next generation W-CDMA product portfolio at next month’s 3GSM World Congress (Cannes, France, February 14th-17th).
Visitors to the stand (no.H1&H2, Hall 3) will be the first in Europe to witness the IP-based V.3 generation of ZTE's leading edge W-CDMA technology. The new portfolio combines an extended feature range with expanded traffic capacity, reduced OpEx and world-class reliability. The 3GPP-compliant V.3 product range also offers operators additional flexibility to realise a range of different W-CDMA deployment scenarios and strategies.
“ZTE’s W-CDMA equipment is world-leading technology, of which I am very proud,” said, Mr. Liu Peng, Vice GM, ZTE Mobile. “ZTE has extensive W-CDMA capability and is able to provides operators with one-stop solutions for W-CDMA network construction, including network planning, professional engineering services, 3G operation platforms and 3G terminals. Our V.2 system has been successful around the world and I am pleased to launch the V.3 technology – a result of our continued investment in research and development – at this prestigious event.”
ZTE's V.3 W-CDMA solutions build on the notable success achieved by the company's 3GPP R99/R4-compliant V.2 technology. V.2 has clocked up excellent performance in field testing conducted on the MTNet testing facility managed by China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII) Research Institute of Telecommunications Transmission (RITT), and has also been deployed in large scale experimental commercial networks overseas and in China. Having considerable commonality of hardware, ZTE's V.2 W-CDMA technology constitutes a solid foundation for operators upgrading to V.3. In addition, V.3 retains all the basic R99/R4 features of V.2, and inherits some of the optional features of that technology generation.
V.3 W-CDMA is an IP evolution designed to meet changing 3G market circumstances. In general the new product series meets the latest requirements for 3G commercial network construction, and uses complete optimized IP software/hardware structures and many advanced technologies and features. These include supporting Omni Transmitter Sector Receivers (OTSRs), 4-RX Receivers, TX diversity and High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) etc. On the radio network side, ZTE Corporation's V.3 Node B equipment series offers mass types like macro, micro, in-door, and out-door working, plus Remote RF Units (RRUs) and baseband pooling to meet different service providers' requirements for different 3G network solutions.
ZTE's V.3 product series offers substantial improvement for W-CDMA performance indices such as packet exchange capacity and subscriber numbers supported, and has best-of-breed equipment reliability and network maintainability. A unified service platform facilitates fast and easy deployment of new services, while a network management system delivers industry-leading functionality based on a mature, super integrated architecture, and mainstream software and hardware.
ZTE began tracking W-CDMA developments a decade ago. The company subsequently kicked off a major, strategic W-CDMA R&D initiative in 1998. The following year ZTE commenced W-CDMA manufacturing, and rolled out a complete set of R4-based commercial systems in 2002. At present ZTE has over 2,000 engineers engaged in W-CDMA R&D. It has also set up the European Research Institute (ERI) in Sweden. This body specializes in the R&D of critical W-CDMA radio technologies, and has been responsible for tracking fast pace in these technologies worldwide.
In September 2004, ZTE successfully launched a W-CDMA trial network in Tunisia, and two of the countries key cities – Tunis and Sousse – are currently using W-CDMA equipment from ZTE.
In addition to W-CDMA systems and terminals, ZTE is the leading Chinese CDMA brand, with systems operating at various frequency bands: 450 MHz, 800 MHz, 1.9 GHz and 2.1 GHz. ZTE has recently launched new products and value-added services, including CDMA products on an all-IP platform for 3G, a CDMA-based radio digital trunking communication system (GoTa), an encryption communication system, the CDMA 1X system, the GSM 1X system, and a CDMA 2000 1X EV-DO system.
