BellSouth Enterprises President Ike Harris Named to 75 Most Powerful African- Americans in Corporate America
ATLANTA, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- BellSouth Enterprises President Ike Harris has been named one of the 75 Most Powerful African-Americans in Corporate America by Black Enterprise Magazine. Harris and other recipients will be featured in the January 18 edition of the publication.
Harris joins other CEOs, presidents and executive leaders from the largest publicly traded companies in the U.S. Criteria for the award was leaders running a major company or division of a company that makes a significant contribution to the company's revenues, or serve as officers on their company's executive committee. Harris serves in both roles with BellSouth.

"When you look at this list it is not just a 'Who's Who' of African-American business leaders, but also a 'Who's Who' of successful American corporations. Black Enterprise began its list in 1988 with no chief executives on the list. By 1993, the list included 12 presidents and two CEOs. This year's list includes 18 CEO's and 26 presidents.
Harris brings a wealth of experience in accepting this honor. In his current position, Harris is responsible for BellSouth's European and Latin American operations, and BellSouth's Advertising and Publishing Company. He is also co-chairman of BellSouth's Diversity Council. In March of this year, Harris will also take the reigns as President of BellSouth Advertising and Publishing.

Prior to the BellSouth Enterprises role, Mr. Harris served three years as President of BellSouth Consumer Services, with responsibility for the strategic marketing, sales and customer service direction of BellSouth's largest customer unit. Mr. Harris joined BellSouth in 1997 as BellSouth Telecommunications' Chief Financial Officer, and assumed the role of Corporate VP of Finance prior to moving to Consumer Services.
A native of West Memphis, Arkansas, Mr. Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University and is a Certified Public Accountant. He has also completed the University of Minnesota Executive MBA program.
Mr. Harris previously held the position of Vice President and Corporate Controller of SUPERVALU, INC., a Minneapolis-based food wholesaler and retailer with $17 billion in revenues. Prior to joining SUPERVALU, Mr. Harris spent 13 years with KPMG Peat Marwick where he provided accounting and consulting services to entities operating in manufacturing, wholesaling, retailing, and hospitality. Mr. Harris also spent eight years as a
professional football player with the then St. Louis Cardinals and the New Orleans Saints.
Mr. Harris' current professional affiliations include board membership at Deluxe Corporation, Atlanta Life Financial Group, Henry W. Grady Foundation and the Iowa State University Foundation Board of Governors. Mr. Harris currently serves the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta as a member of the Finance Committee, and OFC Venture Challenge, a non-profit which facilitates the entrepreneurship curriculum in Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
