SIPfoundry Advances SIP Deployment with Three Key Software Solutions
WESTBOROUGH, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- Jan. 10, 2005 -- SIPfoundry:
- SIPfoundry Announces sipX - the SIP PBX for Linux, reSIProcate - the Reference SIP Stack, and the SIP Interoperability Project - Each Will Play a Key Role in Advancing the Adoption of SIP Products and Technologies
SIPfoundry, a Massachusetts-based non-profit organization for the development of open source Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based communication solutions, today announced the availability of three new software solutions that will dramatically advance the adoption of SIP technologies within the telephony and enterprise communications markets. Since its founding in March 2004, SIPfoundry has become the industry's premier open source SIP development organization, hosting several of the leading open source SIP development projects including sipX, reSIProcate, SFTF - the SIP Forum Test Framework, as well as OSP and MSRP.
"SIPfoundry's mission is to advance SIP as the definitive communications infrastructure by accelerating the standardization, development and deployment of SIP-based technologies and applications. We believe these three projects serve as industry catalysts," said Robert Sparks, president of the SIPfoundry board of directors and CTO of Xten. "Over the past year, SIPfoundry has grown to over 1,700 active participants working on projects ranging from the reSIProcate stack and sipX PBX to the technical innovations needed to secure communications, avoid real-time SPAM, and drive growth over the next several years."
sipX, the SIP PBX for Linux, is a 100 percent SIP, 100 percent open source PBX with the functionality required to meet today's business requirements. Intended for end users, OEMs and developers sipX is a complete, fully documented, easy-to-download, install and manage SIP PBX, voicemail, auto-attendant and SIP proxy. Available now for download, this robust SIP PBX for Linux is fully interoperable with SIP-compliant media gateways and phones, and is fully manageable via a simple web-browser interface.
reSIProcate is the most useful SIP stack on the market, unencumbered by any one company's commercial agenda. reSIProcate provides the most complete and standards compliant implementations of the key IETF RFCs relating to SIP including enhanced security features, NAT Traversal, Instant Messaging and Presence. The reSIProcate stack is currently being used in a growing number of commercial products and technologies from companies including TelTel, Jasomi Networks, Xten, Jabber Inc, CSP - Italy and Computer-Talk Technologies.
"SIPfoundry is dedicated to creating software solutions that implement IETF SIP-related specifications, giving end-users and developers one-stop access to a wide variety of SIP application software, tools and resources available under open source licenses that allow easy commercial use," said Jason Fischl, CTO of TelTel, member of the SIPfoundry and the Vovida.org board of directors and contributor to the reSIProcate project. "SIPfoundry is the most active open source SIP developer community and is able to develop innovative, high quality, interoperable software by leveraging experts from many of the world's leading companies in the field of SIP."
To accelerate the adoption of the SIP protocol, SIPfoundry is providing formal support for the SIP Forum Test Framework (SFTF). Designed and written by the SIP Forum and hosted by SIPfoundry as the SFTF SIP Interoperability Project, the SFTF is a growing body of open source test suites that help SIP product users and vendors ensure standards conformance and interoperability - helping to eliminate SIP islands. "SIPfoundry is playing a crucial role in helping the SIP Forum execute on its charter of advancing the interoperability of SIP-based products and services," said Jay Batson, Chairman and Managing Director of the SIP Forum. "The infrastructure support provided by SIPfoundry creates a readily-available test environment that will increase the value to participants in the Forum's SIPit and SIMPLEt interoperability testing events."
"Through the SFTF SIP Interoperability Project, SIPfoundry aims to accelerate the adoption of SIP-based technologies and applications," said Martin Steinmann, member of the SIPfoundry board of directors. "This interoperability testing framework provides the requisite testing mechanism to ensure products, applications and technologies adhere to the SIP standard and we believe it will be invaluable as the market unfolds."
