Kopin Microdisplays Take 'Home Theater' out of the House and on the Road; Stylish New Video Eyewear from Icuiti Features Kopin CyberDisplay Color Filter VGA

TAUNTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- Jan. 10, 2005 -- Kopin Corp. (NASDAQ: KOPN), the largest U.S. manufacturer of microdisplays for consumer, military and industrial applications, today announced it is supplying enhanced-definition microdisplays for a new, multimedia video eyewear system worn like sunglasses, the Icuiti V920. Twin Kopin CyberDisplay(TM) Color Filter VGA microdisplays are at the heart of the Icuiti V920's full-color video system.

Announced last week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the Icuiti V920 is the world's highest-resolution 3D video eyewear system for the consumer market. Resembling a pair of futuristic sunglasses, it creates a sharp image for the viewer equivalent to a 42-inch flat screen viewed from seven feet. It enables consumers to enjoy a wide range of video-rich multimedia entertainment and information on the go. In daylight or darkness, they can watch movies, videos, and TV shows, as well as audio/video streamed from cell phones, the Apple iPod photo and myriad other sources. They can read e-mail, examine confidential material and play GameCube, PlayStation and Xbox games. They can experience both high-quality standard and 3D stereoscopic video as well as 100 mW per channel audio through the lightweight (sub 3.5 ounces) eyewear.

Because of the system's sleek design and high-fidelity video performance, the Consumer Electronics Show awarded Icuiti with its coveted CES Innovations 2005 Design and Engineering award.

"The Icuiti V920 is a big advance in small electronics," said Icuiti President Paul J. Travers. "Because our customers are discriminating about style, demanding of their multimedia experience, and savvy about technology, it's critical that we incorporate the smallest, lightest, highest-density displays available. More than any other supplier, Kopin meets these standards and is proven in military, mobile and futuristic applications."

"High-quality displays have grown in size in the 22 years since flat-screen TVs kicked off the home theater market," said Dr. John C.C. Fan, Kopin's president and CEO. "We have joined forces with companies like Icuiti to make that home theater experience personal and portable. Our small footprint and superior power efficiency makes video on the go a reality in the form of fun, fashionable and ultra portable consumer electronic products."

Built with nanotechnology, the Kopin CyberDisplay Color Filter VGA is the world's smallest, lowest power, color-filter VGA-resolution microdisplay. The active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD) packs 921,600 pixel dots in the 0.44-inch display, a density that no other microdisplay maker has achieved. The device is capable of 16.7 million colors and extends battery power by consuming a mere 60-70 milliwatts of power while displaying a vivid full-color video image. They are ideal for wearable devices like the Icuiti V920 as well as camcorder and digital camera viewfinders and most portable consumer and industrial applications.

The Icuiti V920 is available for $499 at www.icuiti.com and select retailers in the United States and Japan. It connects to virtually any video source, laptop, portable media player, video-capable cell phones, test and measurement device, or video camera.
