Omnicity Announces High Speed Internet Business Opportunity for REMCs

INDIANAPOLIS --(Business Wire)-- Feb. 16, 2005 -- Service Concepts, a service corporation formed through the alliance of 29 rural electric membership cooperatives (REMCs), and Omnicity, Inc., an Indiana-based company that provides high speed Internet access and advanced communications solutions to communities, businesses and residential users, announced a venture to bring a wireless high speed Internet business opportunity to REMCs across the country.

"Our goal is to make sure that rural areas don't get left behind by the broadband revolution," noted Michael Earley, Omnicity Chairman and CEO. "Many residents and businesses in rural areas need and want high speed Internet at a reasonable cost. It's important to residents for the convenience and opportunities it offers, and for businesses to help them survive in today's fast paced and competitive environment. Partnering with REMC's is a great way to leverage their strengths and ours."

Steve Thrash, Service Concepts CEO, noted the economic importance of broadband access in rural areas. "Providing high speed Internet connectivity directly supports our goals of filling a need that allows recruiting employers and making our rural towns an even more attractive place."

Omnicity's pricing provides the incentive for customers to make the leap to broadband or to switch from more costly services such as cable modem access. Omnicity will also provide alternative wireless, wired and fiber solutions for larger businesses and customers who require higher bandwidth access.

Omnicity already provides wireless Internet services in several Indiana counties, and most recently launched service in partnership with Wabash County REMC. "Wabash is a perfect model of the Omnicity approach to Indiana's underserved communities," said Michael Earley, the company's CEO. "Our goal is to work with the REMCs to create partnerships that are mutually beneficial and to create a new source of revenue."
