Soccer: K. Nakata says switch from Marseille possible in Jan.+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)ROME, Dec. 31_(Kyodo) _ Japanese international defender Koji Nakata, who is having an unhappy spell at Marseille, has suggested the possibility of his leaving the French first-division club.

"It's possible that I'll move to another team in January, although nothing has been made clear," Nakata said on his official website posted Friday, noting that he turned down a recent offer from an Israeli club.

Nakata said he was informed of the offer by a Marseille official on Dec. 17 and then was left out of a squad training camp, prompting him to feel that he is bound for the transfer market.

"I'm puzzled because these things have happened too quickly," Nakata said. "The transfer market will close at the end of January, and I'll just leave it all up to my agent. All I have to do now is keep training in order to maintain match fitness."

Nakata signed with Marseille from the J-League side Kashima Antlers in January this year when former Japan coach Philippe Troussier, under whom the 26-year-old was a regular in the national team lineup, served as manager of the French club.

Nakata has appeared in just four league matches this season for Marseille, who are currently seventh in the 20-team table after 19 games.
