Your view: Singapore cure

(Daily Record Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)SCOTLAND is covered in graffiti and plagued by destruction of property.

Almost everywhere is blighted by litter and dog mess, drunks and neds have taken over communities and most people won't venture out at night for fear of being mugged, or worse.

Singapore has very little vandalism, practically no litter, there's no drunken loutish behaviour to talk of, and their citizens feel safe on the streets at any time of day or night.

So why should these two small states be so different?

Singapore has strict laws with severe punishments for even minor transgressions while Scotland doesn't.

Yes, it's a simplistic argument, but there's no denying the fact that the Singapore system works.

We've been pandering to the criminals and anti-social types for the last 30 years and look where it's got us - one of the highest crime rates in the developed world
