RIL plans a makeover with new colours, logo

(Ecomonic Times, The (India) (KRT) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Dec. 29--MUMBAI, India -- The Mukesh Ambani-controlled Reliance Industries (RIL) is taking a few steps to refurbish its corporate identity.

The Reliance logo, which is over thirty years old, is getting a makeover. The logo is being standardised for all RIL companies. While the existing gold and black colours have been retained, the font bearing "Reliance Industries Limited" has been changed to make it look more contemporary. Also, the logo will sport the company tagline "Growth is life" for the first time. This change in the logo has been buttressed by a communications campaign which kicked off today.

Over the past three months, every article bearing the RIL insignia, from office equipment to the interiors and exteriors of the plane, has been made to sport the new look. The process of changing over to this new identity is likely to last for another six months.

An RIL spokesperson refused to comment about the possibility of a new corporate identity, but confirmed that a few changes have been made to the logo.

After speculation that a foreign agency would be roped in for communication duties, Umbrella Studio, a creative shop based in Mumbai, have been given the responsibility.

Umbrella refused to divulge details about the size of the communications account. According to Bhupal Ramnathkar, director, Umbrella Studio, "the company (RIL) will have a communication campaign that is centered around the word 'life'." The communications campaign kicked off today to mark the birth anniversary of Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of the Reliance empire. There have been 68 ads in many different regional languages paying homage to the late Dhirubhai Ambani as well as exhorting a celebration of life.

Mr Ramnathkar, who had started Umbrella two years ago, was formerly the national creative director for Enterprise Nexus. Umbrella have been involved in the corporate identity restructuring for auto component major Bharat Forge. They also handle HDFC Bank's asset products. Incidentally, Umbrella Studio's first ever client was also RIL.
