Gensym Launches Unified Reasoning Suite; Latest Release of G2 Rule Engine Integrates Full Spectrum of Reasoning Capabilities

BURLINGTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- Dec. 19, 2005 -- Gensym Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: GNSM), a leading provider of rule engine software for mission-critical solutions, today announced the immediate availability of version 8.2 of its flagship G2(R) real-time rule engine platform. G2 8.2 delivers a comprehensive and unified foundation for a wide range of reasoning-driven products and solutions available from Gensym and its partners.

"G2 8.2 is a culmination of ongoing investments in our next generation of G2, which was launched in 2004," said Kim Mayyasi, Gensym's president and CEO. "With G2 8.2 we are releasing a rich foundation of reasoning technology for mission-critical solutions that improve the design, performance, resilience, and agility of business-critical operations. We have been working closely with partners as we release a new generation of our G2 products, including those for problem prediction and diagnosis, performance management, business process management, and supply-chain management, all on top of G2 8.2. This release enhances the G2 technology platform for our software-as-a-service initiative, which includes our just released on-demand Web service for supply-chain design and analysis, webSCOR.com."

G2 8.2 offers a unified framework of reasoning building blocks including natural language rules, procedures, object modeling, simulation, business process and workflow execution, graphical diagnostics, message handling, data processing, integration, Web technology, and many developer productivity tools. The release also expands G2's capabilities for business process and workflow execution, rules, integration, and user interface. The G2 8.2 foundation speeds time-to-completions of projects and increases application agility versus traditional programming.

"I am excited about G2 8.2's enhancements to the business process execution language, or BPEL, functionality introduced in G2 8.1 earlier this year," added Mayyasi. "A growing number of our users are automating complex business processes and workflows. Applications range from orchestrating flows of information and materials on factory floors to coordinating military operations to real-time compliance of contractual terms. I am confident that these users will find G2 8.2's business process modeling and execution capabilities to be valuable in these efforts."

G2 8.2 Capabilities

G2 8.2's new capabilities include:

-- Unified suite interface: Extending G2's integrated suite philosophy, G2 8.2's many user interface improvements and additions enhance application navigation, organization, and presentation within a common UI to boost usability for both end users and developers.

-- Enhanced business process and workflow modeling: G2's BPEL-based graphical business process language, introduced in G2 8.1, adds fine-tune control of flow synchronization and execution threads, application-specific customization of flow diagrams, and new hierarchical data structures for representing items such as complex orders.

-- Enriched rules: Greater control of rule and procedure execution simplifies creation of workflow solutions. New analysis tools improve rule management.

-- Expanded integration: Support of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for G2's Telewindows UI client enhances application security. XML data structures are more easily imported, executed, and exported.

"G2 8.2 is a reflection of Gensym's ongoing and substantial investment in its award-winning core reasoning technologies," concluded Mayyasi. "It further reflects Gensym's commitment to extending its leadership for automating decisions in real time within business-critical operations such as those found in manufacturing, telecommunications, military, transportation, aerospace, and finance."
