Italian Multiplex Installs Five Dolby Digital Cinema Systems; Largest Digital Cinema Installation in Europe in a Single Theatre

WOOTTON BASSETT, England --(Business Wire)-- Dec. 14, 2005 -- Dolby Laboratories (NYSE:DLB) today announced that The Furlan Group's CineCity in Padova, Italy, installed five Dolby(R) Digital Cinema systems and Cinemeccanica digital projectors at its brand-new multiplex. With five screens fully installed, CineCity is the largest European installation of digital cinema systems in a single theatre.

CineCity Padova is the latest international installation of the Dolby Digital Cinema system. There are currently more than 100 Dolby Digital Cinema systems in place worldwide, including North America, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK. Cinemeccanica, a well-known European cinema projector manufacturer and longstanding authorized distributor for Dolby products, installed the digital cinema systems in the multiplex.

Vittore Nicelli, Managing Director of Cinemeccanica, commented, "Digital cinema in Italy is just beginning to take off. More exhibitors are realizing the huge benefits digital cinema can bring to the entire cinema entertainment chain. The Furlan Group multiplex is leading the field in Italian cinema by installing these digital cinema systems, and I hope there will be many more to follow."

Gianantonio Furlan, Managing Director at The Furlan Group's CineCity Padova, said, "We have chosen to implement Dolby Digital Cinema because we anticipate the demand of more directors to create and distribute movies in a digital format. We know that we can trust the Dolby team and technology as we make this transition. It allows us to offer flawless, crystal-clear playback of films every time, improving the experience for the cinemagoer." CineCity Padova began showing Tim Burton's Corpse Bride and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire digitally on December 2, 2005.

The Dolby Digital Cinema system was specifically engineered for real-world cinema installations and offers superb picture quality, reliability, and user-friendly operation. An added advantage is a high level of piracy protection, so that movie studios can feel secure in releasing digital presentations to cinemas equipped with the Dolby Digital Cinema system.

More than 25 digital movies have been played using Dolby Digital Cinema in select locations around the world, including Chicken Little, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Flightplan, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, The Incredibles, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Madagascar, The Magic Roundabout, Sin City, Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith, and Valiant.
