Talyst(TM) Becomes the New Name For Integrated Healthcare Systems, Focused on Engineering the Intelligent Pharmacy(TM); Compatible Systems Enhance Efficiency, Accountability and Safety
SEATTLE --(Business Wire)-- Dec. 5, 2005 -- A catalyst for improvement of pharmacy systems. That is one way that Integrated Healthcare Systems has been described, in its role as a leader in automation technology for hospital pharmacies. Beginning today, the company further embraces its role as catalyst, by changing its name to Talyst (pronounced "TAL-ist").
At the Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, underway this week in Las Vegas, the company announced its rebranding as Talyst, the source for innovative pharmacy solutions.
Engineering the intelligent pharmacy
"The pivotal role of pharmacists in the hospital supply chain explains our mission 'engineering the intelligent pharmacy,'" explained James Torina, president and chief executive officer. The name change signals our long-term commitment to building a brand that is synonymous with intelligent use of pharmacy resources to improve safety and efficiencies.
Growth and maturation of the company over the past year precipitated the change. With a strong critical mass of customers, new strategic partnerships in place and growing market acceptance, there was an increasing need for a simple, identifiable name and brand identity.
"Everywhere, pharmacists are being called upon to accomplish more for their organizations, but often within existing budgets and space limitations. We help them to do just that, with solutions that make their pharmacies smarter, more efficient and better integrated into their organizations," added Torina.
The AutoPharm System(R) is Talyst's lead solution, centered upon a software platform that maintains a perpetual inventory of medications throughout the hospital, while also directing smart devices for packaging, labeling, storage and order filling.
"The real-time inventory is a prime example of why 'intelligent pharmacy' resonates for pharmacists and hospital executives," according to industry analyst Mark Neuenschwander of The Neuenschwander Co. "The management advantages are clear, as pharmacy automation extends beyond the safety advantages of barcoding medications, into smart resource and asset management for the entire organization."
Process improvement, innovation
Through its work with hospital pharmacists throughout the country, Talyst builds upon the profession's passion for process improvement and innovation. The movement to electronic medical records gives pharmacists the opportunity to elevate the strategic value of the pharmacy. Talyst helps integrate the pharmacy with the rest of the healthcare enterprise, closing the loop between bedside scanning and inventory management.
In its initial three years, the company has consistently delivered innovative, reliable equipment and software solutions that interface with all hospital information systems, pharmacy information systems, other medication handling equipment and wholesale ordering systems.
Consistent product names
Building upon the successful AutoPharm hardware and software solution, the Talyst product line now takes on a consistent nomenclature. Under this arrangement, the company's solutions and product lines include these components which bridge between hospital information systems and bedside delivery:
-- AutoPharm System(R)
-- AutoPharm Inventory and Workflow Manager
-- AutoCarousel(TM)
-- Barcode to Dose(TM) Solution for bar-coding 100% of your medications
-- AutoLabel(TM)
-- AutoPack(TM)
-- AutoSplit 340B(TM) for hospitals needing to simplify 340B billing and inventory management.
New product line: the Kirby Lester Counting System
Today the company also announced its selection as exclusive distributor to represent the Kirby Lester KL-16 Automatic Tablet and Capsule Counting System in the hospital market.
"We are excited to represent the market-leading Kirby Lester products," Torina adds. "With strong safety and efficiency advantages, the KL-16 enables hospital outpatient pharmacies to gain many of the advantages of expensive retail pharmacy systems at a fraction of the cost." In addition to proven time savings, the KL-16 also enables pharmacy staff to access drug data, including photographs, on more than 8,000 medications. The system provides an audit trail of each activity, including verification of each prescription filled.
