IT Industry Leaders, Companies Honored at CompTIA Breakaway Conference

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 15, 2005 -- Ten individuals and organizations who have contributed to the betterment of the information technology (IT) industry were recently honored by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). The CompTIA 2005 Industry Contribution awards were presented this month at the association's annual Breakaway conference, the IT industry's premiere partnering event for IT business leaders, resellers, manufacturers, distributors, and solutions providers.



"The organizations and individuals who received these awards have gone the extra mile to advance the health and well-being of our industry," said John Venator, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA.

In the Leadership category, awards were presented to four individuals:



-- Emily Stover DeRocco, assistant secretary for employment and training, U.S. Department of Labor, for her efforts to make the federal government's training and workforce programs more responsive to the needs of American workers and employers.

-- Norihisa Nirai, manager, customer support group, Brother International Corporation, for his support of CompTIA certifications worldwide and for driving industry adoption of service metric programs.

-- Patrick Sweeney, president, ODIN Technologies, who has been instrumental in advancing CompTIA's radio frequency identification (RFID) initiatives and the RFID industry as a whole.

-- Aaron Woods, director, services and alliances, Xerox North America, for his work in the development and growth of CompTIA A+(TM) certification and with the CompTIA Services Section.

Tech Data Corporation, a leading global provider of IT products, logistics management and other value-added services, was honored with a Leadership award for its Specialized Business Units program, which focuses on emerging and high end technologies and has provided resellers with the products, technical and marketing support to allow them to successfully enter new markets.

Two awards were presented in the category of Valued Channel Communities. ScanSource, Inc., a leading international distributor of specialty technology products, was recognized for its efforts to more efficiently deliver technology solutions to the market; to educate the IT reseller community; and for its contributions to the development of vendor neutral certifications in RFID and convergence technologies.

Also honored was the ASCII Group, the nation's largest group of independent computer value added resellers and independent computer solution providers. The ASCII Group was singled out for the innovative tools and unique solutions it delivers to help their members' businesses thrive.

Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, received the Innovation award for creating many of the methodologies and unique training programs that resellers use to enter new markets.

Hewlett-Packard Company, a technology solutions provider to consumers, businesses and institutions globally, received the Teamwork award in recognition of its leadership from both the industry and community perspective.

Trend Micro, Inc., a global leader in antivirus and content security, received the Creativity award for reaching resellers in a market flooded by other big names.

The award winners were chosen through the votes of CompTIA members.
