Mindspeed(R) and Legerity Join Forces to Simplify VoIP System Development for Carrier and Broadband Access Equipment

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. & AUSTIN, Texas --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 15, 2005 -- - Mindspeed's Comcerto(TM) VoIP Processors Combined with Legerity's VoiceEdge(TM) Advanced Voice Solutions Provide Complete, Feature-Rich VoIP Systems

Mindspeed Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, and Legerity Inc., the world's leading supplier of advanced voice interface solutions, today announced that they are joining forces to offer complete carrier-class voice-over-IP (VoIP) solutions for carrier and broadband digital access equipment. The combined products address the complete VoIP processing path with best-in-class voice quality, diagnostics and worldwide programmability, while maintaining low total system cost and accelerating system development time.

The Mindspeed and Legerity technical and sales teams have developed the working relationships and cross-industry knowledge necessary to simplify their customers' product selection and system development. Through greater understanding of each other's products and how they interoperate with each other, complete systems-level offerings can be assembled for a variety of VoIP communication equipment.

"Mindspeed is excited to be working closely with Legerity to provide our customers with the most complete and competitive access network solutions available worldwide," said Preet Virk, vice president of marketing for Mindspeed. "Legerity's industry-leading advanced voice interface solutions and extensive market experience, combined with Mindspeed's carrier-class Comcerto voice processor products, provides access equipment manufacturers a clear best-in-class choice for VoIP solutions."

"The Mindspeed and Legerity relationship enables customers to develop VoIP products faster and more cost-effectively," said Mike Stibila, vice president of marketing and applications for Legerity. "In today's extremely competitive world, development cost and time are king. Together, we offer the market a very low price point while providing the most advanced features and diagnostic packages available."

Mindspeed's Comcerto processor architecture is optimized for VoIP applications, integrating high-performance DSP cores and a packet-processing engine with industry-standard streaming packet interfaces. Combined with an extensive programmable software suite, the Comcerto family offers equipment designers a sophisticated open-source processing system for handling line-card management, signaling, and other features to provide a complete VoIP solution on a single chip. In addition, pin compatibility across the full range of Comcerto channel densities allows a common design to scale across a broad array of applications.

The Legerity VoiceEdge family was designed to provide voice solutions for the entire range of products in next-generation voice networks including carrier, commercial and consumer-class products. The Legerity VE790 Series provides the most integrated, cost-effective chip set solutions available to carrier and commercial-class voice telephony applications by providing carrier-class line testing, parametric programmability for worldwide operation, and a family of pin-compatible subscriber line interface circuits (SLICs). In consumer applications, Legerity's Ve880 VoicePort(TM) devices integrate the complete telephone line interface in a single device from the high-voltage subscriber line to the digital port of a Comcerto processor.

Mindspeed and Legerity are offering scalable system solutions supporting from two to greater than 64 ports of copper POTS-to-Ethernet VoIP, targeting both carrier and broadband access equipment applications including combined voice and data routers, as well as IP-based digital subscriber line access multiplexers (IP-DSLAMs), multi-service access nodes, next-generation digital loop carriers (DLCs), and passive optical network (PON) units for fiber-to-the-node/fiber-to-the-premise networks.

The two companies are also working together on developing integrated voice and data (IVD) line card solutions which incorporate xDSL data access and VoIP processing on a common line card.
