Comcast Announces Carriage of Nine New Multicultural Services


SAN FRANCISCO, April 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA; CMCSK), the nation's leading provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services, today announced carriage agreements with nine multicultural channels and On Demand services. These new offerings are part of Comcast's emphasis on providing consumers with the widest possible array of multicultural programming and expanded entertainment and information choices.


The channels announced today include:

-- AZN Television (formerly the International Channel) -- offering viewers
the best entertainment and news programming from Asia together with
original Asian American shows produced in the U.S.
-- Azteca On Demand -- original and produced shows for Hispanics in the
U.S., as well as the best novelas, news, sports and entertainment, talk
shows, and more.
-- Canal 52 MX -- the popular Mexican general entertainment channel with
movies, sports, music, series, news, and sitcoms that will be largely a
simulcast of the service as it is distributed throughout Mexico.
-- C1R -- Channel 1 Russia Worldwide Network -- serves Russian communities
throughout the United States with popular programming, news, movies,
entertainment and sports from home. C1R is the international arm of
ORT, Russia's leading television network.
-- GMA 7 -- news, public affairs programs, variety programming, sitcoms,
drama specials, soap operas and general interest programs presented as
they are distributed in the Philippines.
-- HITN -- the U.S.-based, Spanish-language channel that combines
PBS-style educational programming with news and cultural commentary,
public affairs, documentaries and how-to programming that informs and
empowers Latino families.
-- ITN, -- the only Russian family-friendly network broadcasting cultural,
arts, religious, and educational programming in the U.S.
-- La Familia -- the whole family's general entertainment service that
includes children's, teens, music, variety, talk shows and novella
programs.
-- TVK24 -- offers Korean Americans with first-run programming never
before seen in the U.S. including news, dramas, movies, sports,
business, health, music, children's, game shows, entertainment and
educational programming -- all in Korean.



"Today, the American television audience is more diverse than ever and we have responded by offering consumers significantly expanded multicultural programming choices," said David Jensen, vice president of International Programming at Comcast. "We are also enhancing the value of our video on demand service by offering an ever-increasing array of content with multicultural appeal, which is available at no additional charge in most cases to our digital customers. The abundance of these new and diverse programming sources is one of the most exciting things Comcast is doing in the programming area today."
Comcast systems collectively offer consumers more than 50 channels featuring multicultural programming from around the world, including adding 38 additional multicultural channels in the last year alone. In Comcast markets where these services will be carried, launch dates and channel locations will vary. Content from several of these networks will also be available on Comcast's Video On Demand service in multiple markets. Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
