Sprint Nextel Introduces New Samsung Phone with Immersion VibeTonz(TM) System
SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Sept. 28, 2005 -- Immersion Corporation (Nasdaq:IMMR), a leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, today announced that Sprint Nextel is offering a new Samsung phone, the Immersion VibeTonz-enabled VI-A820. Sprint Nextel currently has approximately 44 million subscribers.
Adding VibeTonz touch sensations to sight and sound cues helps make phone operation easier and more intuitive. For example, with the Samsung A820, users can customize their mobile phone experience in a way that fits their personality and lifestyle. Unique ringers with VibeTonz effects synchronized to the music can identify a caller even when the audio is turned off or when the environment is too noisy for the music to be heard. Alerts with VibeTonz effects can let users know immediately when a call is connecting without needing to hold the phone to their ear. A subtle VibeTonz touch sensation indicating signal loss can alleviate the frustration of continuing to talk after the call has been dropped.
The A820 phone also supports Sprint Nextel's popular PCS Ready Link that supplies quick walkie-talkie style communication.
"With Immersion's technology, touch sensations can be added to virtually any application on a mobile phone," said John Grundy, vice president and general manager of Immersion's mobility business. "A full range of touch sensations can offer a more enjoyable and intuitive user experience for Sprint Nextel's subscriber base. The VibeTonz System can also help drive more revenue, create differentiation and brand value, and increase customer loyalty."
