MATERNA Offers Text-to-Speech Services in the U.S.: Mobile SMS Converted Into Voice Messages; Text Messaging That Lets Your Fingers Do the Talking

ARLINGTON, Va. --(Business Wire)-- Sept. 27, 2005 -- MATERNA USA, a subsidiary of MATERNA Information & Communications, today announced that it can now offer carriers the ability to take subscribers' SMS text messages and deliver them as voice messages to non-SMS wireless phones, as well as wireline phones.



"The service is quite popular already in Europe and we expect North American wireless carriers to be very interested because this is a chance to gain revenues from messages that were previously undeliverable to non-SMS phones," said Patrick Dine, MATERNA VP for North America. "It can turn millions of wireline telephone subscribers into SMS enabled users who can send and receive SMS to and from wireline and wireless phones."

MATERNA is one of the pioneers in fixed line messaging and holds several patents in this field. Furthermore MATERNA has operated its own Anny Way branded F-SMS service in Germany since 2002 with more than 1.5 million customers today.



MATERNA's server is equipped with an email interface so that a text message can be sent to the system using common email front-ends. The email contains the sender's address, the recipient's telephone number (which can be for a wireless or wireline phone) and the text message to be converted.

The system then processes the email, converts the text message into audio data, calls the recipient's phone number and reads out the message and other pertinent information. The target language for the conversion is recognized automatically or can be defined by using an appropriate email address.
