Patapsco’s ISDN and IP Solutions Available in Asia-Pacific

Liphook, Hampshire, England – September 13, 2005 - Patapsco Communications, the telecoms engineering specialist, has entered into an Agreement with Promptus Communications Group to provide its PacketBand and Liberator products across the Asia-Pacific region. Headquartered in Australia, Promptus Communications Pty is a division of the international Promptus group of companies.

This new Agreement with Patapsco builds upon an existing successful relationship with the US company and extends the geographical regions in which Patapsco’s products are now available. Promptus will be targeting Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and China.

Promptus markets a range of high speed access, security and video conferencing solutions for telecom technologies such as: ISDN, IP, Frame Relay, ATM and ADSL. These are generally designed for corporate, government, military, carrier and medium sized enterprise users. Patapsco’s products will enhance and expand this range of offerings by providing additional ISDN and IP systems to maximise and expand the use of these networks.

Liberator Series

Specifically, Promptus will be promoting Patapsco’s Liberator ISDN cross-connect multiplexer to the carrier and large enterprise market throughout Australia and New Zealand. The Liberator will also be rolled out throughout Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and China via the Company’s representative offices.

PacketBand ISDN and TDM over IP

Furthermore, Patapsco’s 2 new PacketBand Pseudo-Wire systems will be marketed to 100 plus licensed carriers in Australia and New Zealand and over 2,000 corporate, military and government accounts.

PacketBand ISDN enables clocked, synchronous clear-channel ISDN PRI and BRI circuits to be delivered across Packet Networks, such as IP. It preserves the “B” channels and all the signalling and data performance characteristics required by ISDN to provide totally seamless transmission.

It offers full SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) capabilities making it ideally suited to carriers wishing to extend their range of services, enabling them to record call information and provide central billing to their clients. PacketBand ISDN also allows carriers to ‘break out’ into national or international networks, so providing significant cost savings on international calls.

Corporate users can profit by running their legacy systems over IP. They will enjoy financial benefits by using the cheaper network to transport ISDN services and simplify their infrastructure by using a single transport system.

PacketBand TDM offers full leased line emulation, so enabling CESoIP or TDM over IP. It allows clocked synchronous or legacy data to be transported over IP, MPLS, Metro and Ethernet networks, so offering financial savings for users and opportunities for carriers to offer additional high-margin services.

“We were first introduced to Patapsco through our strategic partner in the UK,” explained Michael Smith, Chief Executive Officer, Promptus Communications Group. “Our partner spoke highly of the Patapsco product range and of Patapsco as a company. When we reviewed and evaluated their products, we found that they complemented our own solutions, and enabled our customers to maximise the use of their existing technology investments.

“We entered into an Agreement with Patapsco in the US, and this has now been extended to the Far East. We will initially be focusing on marketing the Liberator to the carrier and large enterprise market. This application is well suited to a number of carriers locally and we anticipate that this will quickly prove very popular with our customers.

“There has also been a great deal of interest in PacketBand ISDN. This enables carriers and large corporates to run ISDN transparently across IP networks, so helping companies migrate to a new IP infrastructure and reduce their expenditure on ISDN circuits. This will have the added advantage to carriers, that they will be able to offer new ISDN services over IP. Our experience with government and military organisations are important as there are many potential uses of PacketBand in this sector as well.

He continued, “The beauty of Patapsco’s products is that they are simple and intuitive to configure and operate. They extend the life of our customer’s existing equipment and allow our carrier clients to offer a broader range of ISDN services to their customer base. Furthermore, Patapsco is a very easy company with which to do business. We have been very happy both with the technical and sales support received, and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship.

Patapasco Communications initially entered into a marketing agreement with US-based, Promptus Inc. This was announced on 6 July 2005.
