Fargo's DTC550 Card Printer/Encoder Combines Security and Networking; Enterprise-Class Card Identity System Simplifies and Secures Networked Card Production

ORLANDO, Fla. --(Business Wire)-- Sept. 12, 2005 -- Fargo Electronics, Inc. (NASDAQ:FRGO), a global leader in secure technologies for card identity systems, today announced the introduction of the DTC550 Card Printer/Encoder at the ASIS International Seminar and Exhibits. The DTC550 provides secure networked card printing for high-volume card applications such as medium to large corporations, universities, hospitals and state or local government agencies.

"As security and IT professionals work together to deploy tougher security measures throughout the enterprise, the DTC550 will meet the needs of both disciplines," said Andy Vander Woude, Fargo's director of product marketing for secure printer/encoders. "It is easily integrated, easy to monitor and highly secure."

The DTC550 supports secure ID issuance at multiple locations throughout an enterprise. With an optional Ethernet port and internal print server, the DTC550 can be installed anywhere on a Local Area Network (LAN). Its print driver provides bi-directional status information over the network (a Fargo exclusive), so the printer/encoder can be monitored and managed like any other networked printer.

Optional Print Security software helps control printer access and use. Applications include password-controlled printer access, electronic notification of unauthorized print attempts, and covert visual security printing to add card security and provide print event data. The Print Security software also gathers diagnostic data for troubleshooting and allows electronic ordering of Fargo Secure Materials.

A card lamination module can be factory-installed or added as a field upgrade to provide an additional layer of durability and security using Fargo Secure Overlaminates. The DTC550 also features encoding options that allow it to read/write up to three different smart card technologies plus magnetic stripe, all in one pass.

The DTC550 continues the competitive features already found in Fargo's DTC500 series: a reject card hopper to monitor incomplete or improperly encoded cards; a SmartScreen(TM) LCD, communicating status messages and prompts; and a dual card input hopper to allow printing from two different card stacks.

The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price for the single-sided DTC550 is $3095; the dual-sided model is $5095. It is available through authorized Fargo integrators.
