Webcasters Create Live Streaming Media Katrina Emergency Information Portal
WASHINGTON, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Webcasting Association (IWA) today announced that it is working with major broadcasters, news organizations, ISPs, technology companies, IWA members, and relief support organizations across the country to create a live streaming media Emergency Katrina Information Portal at: http://www.webcasters.org/.
The tragedy of Hurricane Katrina has touched the world. There are constant requests for the latest local and national information about the situation. Yet, until now, there has been no central source to find audio and video news on the disaster, especially for families who have relatives in the disaster zone, but who otherwise have no direct access to local Gulf broadcast information.
Webcasters.org now serves as a streaming aggregation and information portal that provides the latest links to live Katrina Relief broadcasts and Gulf Coast radio and TV station, web audio and video feeds from news outlets, ham radio operators, and citizen journalists, as well as podcasts and even videoblogs covering the relief efforts in the Gulf of Mexico.
Help for Any Gulf Broadcaster or Journalist in Need
To assist those who need to communicate to the outside world about the situation, the IWA has assembled donated call-in facilities, a studio with production facilities in Houston (and elsewhere), and if needed, extra streaming bandwidth. All that is necessary is a phone line to call in audio, or access to email to send files. The IWA is equipped to receive just about any feed that can be provided, even satellite. Journalists who wish to participate should contact: info@webcasters.org.
The Emergency Katrina Streaming Information Portal is a joint, non-partisan industry effort to assist those in need, facilitated by the IWA. Information on the contributing companies is featured on the website.
