Netopia Introduces New 2200 Series of ADSL2+ Gateways; High-Performance Customer Premises Equipment Offers Unparalleled Interoperability and TR-069 Compliance

EMERYVILLE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Oct. 12, 2005 -- Netopia, Inc. (Pink Sheets:NTPA), a market leader in broadband equipment and service delivery software, today announced the availability of its 2200 Series of ADSL2+ gateways, specifically designed to meet carrier requirements for cost-effective deployment of DSL services to residential subscribers and small office/home office (SOHO) customers. Netopia's new DSL gateways offer complete interoperability and superior rate/reach performance across existing ADSL and new ADSL2/2+ networks, and TR-069 compliance for the centralized provisioning and management of DSL equipment and broadband services. Netopia's new line of DSL customer premises equipment leverages Netopia's proven routing, VGx quality of service (QoS), and security technology and adds a new set of ADSL2+ gateways to Netopia's comprehensive broadband equipment portfolio.

With multiple models supporting different LAN configuration and routing options, the Netopia 2200 Series gateways allow carriers and service providers to offer tiered levels of broadband service for specific market segments. For instance, using different models from the Netopia 2200 Series, providers can offer high-speed Internet access to a single-PC subscriber or alternatively offer an array of voice, video, and data services to multiple computers in a networked household.

Each model in Netopia's new 2200 Series offers an RJ-11, ADSL2+ WAN interface and supports different LAN options:

-- Netopia 2240N-VGx supports a single USB LAN interface for single computer subscribers.

-- Netopia 2241N-VGx includes both a 10/100 Ethernet port and a USB interface for flexibility.

-- Netopia 2246N-VGx offers a 4-port 10/100 Ethernet switch for high-performance networking.

-- Netopia 2247NWG-VGx integrates 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi with a 4-port 10/100 Ethernet switch for complete home and small business networking.

"ADSL2+ allows carriers to efficiently deliver competitive higher-speed broadband services by using their existing copper infrastructure," said Jeff Porter, vice president of product marketing for Netopia. "The Netopia 2200 Series will allow carriers to launch aggressive new marketing programs to attract new subscribers who otherwise might not move to broadband."

Deployable and Interoperable

Designed to meet mass deployment requirements for Netopia's carrier and service provider partners, the Netopia 2200 Series offers carrier-class performance across the widest array of DSL Forum Technical Requirement (TR) specifications. When paired with Netopia's Broadband Server (NBBS), a TR-069 device management platform, the gateways offer diskless installation, thereby reducing the cost and complexity of provisioning DSL services to residential and SOHO subscribers.

The Netopia 2200 Series also offers an integrated PPPoE client, which eliminates extra software licensing costs and significantly reduces operational and support expenses. Incorporating full routing features, each Netopia 2200 Series gateway also protects subscribers from malicious security threats and breaches in their network. Built-in security protects the gateway, data, and applications, allowing DSL subscribers to keep multiple networked devices safe from hackers and denial-of-service attacks.
