San Diego Blood Bank Extends Open Text Solution

CHICAGO --(Business Wire)-- May 31, 2005 --

Plans to Centralize Content Management for Website, Intranet, Extranet; Integrates Solution with Workflows, Document Management

Open Text(TM) Corporation (TSX:OTC)(NASDAQ:OTEX), the world's largest provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software, said today that the San Diego Blood Bank will extend its Livelink ECM solution to improve information access and blood ordering processes, and to help meet regulatory requirements.

The solution will provide a central Web content management platform for the organization's website, and will also manage a planned intranet/extranet that will serve the more than 50 area hospitals that depend on the San Diego Blood Bank. The intranet/extranet will give hospitals information on blood supplies and automate blood orders, utilizing workflows and document management capabilities.

A key requirement for the San Diego Blood Bank is having one content repository to help ensure accurate information and timely updates to Web content, whether it's published to the website or the intranet/extranet. This is critical to meeting regulations on issues such as providing current information on blood donor requirements. The blood bank's new solution will build on its existing Livelink system, which manages documents in accordance with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration's 21 CFR Part 11 regulations for the collection, management and distribution of blood.

"The Web has become one of our most important channels for reaching hospitals, donors and the community in general," said Doug Morton, Director of IT at the San Diego Blood Bank. "Our goal is to both improve processes and improve the speed and accuracy of communication. Tightly integrated Web content management, document management and workflow tools is the only way to accomplish this."

"The San Diego Blood Bank is creating an innovative solution that will address the needs of multiple constituents who depend on its services," said Bill Forquer, Executive Vice President of Marketing at Open Text. "This solution is an example of how customers are demanding a range of tightly integrated ECM tools to manage content across a complete lifecycle."

Established in 1950, the San Diego Blood Bank is at the forefront of transfusion medicine, providing donor centers and bloodmobiles throughout the San Diego area. The organization maintains partnerships in the community with more than 1,000 businesses and community organizations, and is a member of America's Blood Centers, the American Association of Blood Banks and the Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce.
