Fastclick Joins Network Advertising Initiative to Support Fight against Spyware

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- May 17, 2005 -- Fastclick, (NASDAQ: FSTC) a leader in online direct response marketing services, today announced it has joined the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) to protect the privacy rights of consumers and businesses against spyware. Fastclick fully supports the NAI's goal of helping influence the standards and policies that reward responsible marketing and use of data, as well as promoting the long-term growth and viability of the Internet as a positive marketing channel.

"We joined the NAI because we see a significant lack of education in the market around spyware," said Kurt Johnson, CEO, Fastclick. "Throughout its history, Fastclick has taken a firm stance against the tracking of personal information online and refused to create or support spyware products. To this end, we fully support the NAI's initiatives and look forward to working with them to further educate the market and hopefully lessen the burden on consumers and businesses caused by spyware."

Fastclick believes that consumer privacy must be protected, and its products do not involve any spyware. All of the ads that Fastclick offers are compliant with regulations in accordance with the Interactive Advertising Bureau. Fastclick also adheres to strict policies prohibiting the advertisement of spyware across its network of 9,000 sites and has provided consumers with an opt-out functionality since 2001 giving Internet users a choice regarding whether they want to view online advertisements from Fastclick.

As an NAI member, Fastclick is:

-- Educating policy makers, software developers and other interested parties about legitimate online data collection and responsible online business models

-- Helping build a strategy within the coalition to ensure a cohesive and effective strategic response to existing and emerging threats

-- Taking an active role in shaping the agenda for the online advertising industry

Spyware has become an increasingly crucial problem for end users and legitimate online businesses. In the past 18 months, the NAI has been tracking legislative and industry efforts closely through its "Spyware Working Group." Initial findings strongly suggest that open, cross-industry discussion is essential in order to preserve the value of ecommerce while combating fraud and deception online.
