Extreme Networks Enhances Award-Winning Modular OS for Improved Application Performance and SecuritySANTA CLARA, Calif., May 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Extreme Networks, Inc. is introducing new VoIP, IPv6/IPv4 inter-networking and essential security capabilities to its modular operating system, ExtremeWare(R) XOS, for improved application performance. In addition, the Company has extended ExtremeWare XOS to a new fixed configuration solution, the Summit(R) X450 switch, making it the first fixed configuration switch with automated process restart for high availability. This latest release of ExtremeWare XOS features VoIP capabilities, including standards based device discovery for detecting IP telephones, Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities including Ethernet WAN QoS that allows service providers and end users to tune the QoS of their connections to accommodate managed telephony services and Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching (EAPS) version 2 which allows customers to build high resiliency converged networks. ExtremeWare XOS now supports IPv6 on its BlackDiamond(R) 10K, BlackDiamond 8800 series and the new Summit X450 switches. Extensive IPV6 support including L2/L3 forwarding, routing, ACLs and IPv4/IPv6 inter-working are available with this release of ExtremeWare XOS. In addition to features that allow the network to be secured in the presence of IPv6, this release also includes the Security Rules Engine to detect, contain and mitigate day-zero threats. Highlights of the Summit X450 switch include high availability design of both hardware and software, comprehensive security features that include user policy and host integrity enforcement and instrumentation to react to network intrusion and IPv6 support.
