Caspian Networks Debuts Compact, High-Density A50 Flow-State Router

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Caspian Networks, the leading supplier of high performance flow-state solutions for the telecommunications industry, today introduced the A50 flow-state router, the smallest, densest, lowest-power 50-Gbps router in the industry. Housing four 10-gigabit interfaces in a single 6-RU shelf and consuming only 800 watts of power, the A50 is ideal for carriers, Internet service providers, and cable companies. The Caspian A50 delivers all the functionality and stateful quality-of-service capabilities of its big-brother Caspian A120 router in a new, compact form factor with a convenient AC power option.
Caspian will be showcasing the new A50 flow-state router in Booth 445 (Hall A) at The 2005 National Show, the world's largest and most comprehensive trade show for the cable and telecommunications industries, April 3-5 in the Moscone Convention Center, San Francisco.
"The A50 is the result of customer-driven demand for a more compact, lower power version of our flagship A120, and demonstrates the flexibility inherent in our unique distributed-architecture design," said Brad Wurtz, president and chief executive officer of Caspian Networks. "As a result, the A50 uses the same line and processor cards as the A120 and offers unprecedented density, upgradeability and investment protection."
Unlike traditional routers, the A50 is able to recognize and route traffic as flows of related packets, not just as individual packets, to control traffic more effectively than previously possible. Based on the industry's first implementation of actual IP "flow state" in hardware, the A50 flow-state router gives service providers the ability to optimize peering interfaces, implement P2P traffic control, improve the performance of broadband access networks and create an effective and efficient infrastructure for voice and video over IP as well as other real-time services.
The Caspian A50 offers all the standard features of the Caspian A120 with up to 50-Gbps, full-duplex operation, including distributed fabric, routing and integrated management systems, a non-blocking switch architecture, and distributed processing software. In addition, the A50 offers the convenience of optional dual 120-V AC power supplies and standard dual 48-V DC power. The A50 features dual redundant application processor cards and a redundant, hot standby management system.
Like the A120, the A50 supports a variety of optical interfaces, including 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet, OC-192c/STM-64c, OC-48c/STM-16c, and OC-12c/STM-4c. The A50 supports BGP4, IS-IS, and OSPF routing and signaling protocols, with optional support for MPLS, RSVP-TE, LDP, PIM-SM, MBGP and IPv6.
Availability and Pricing
The A50 is generally available and is shipping now. A base system configuration starts at $50,000 USD.
