Surgical Information Systems Signs Cedars-Sinai Medical Center

ATLANTA --(Business Wire)-- March 10, 2005 -- SIS to Provide World-Class Medical Center with Leading-Edge Solutions to Improve Patient Care as well as Staff and Physician Satisfaction

Surgical Information Systems, the leading provider of total perioperative information systems, announced today that Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center will soon implement the company's technology throughout its 38 operating rooms. Cedars-Sinai was ranked #14 in the nation in heart surgery by U.S. News and World Reports' "Best Hospitals 2004," and was one of only 229 hospitals nationwide to receive the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence from HealthGrades, an independent organization focused on health care quality. Cedars-Sinai will implement SIS technology for scheduling and nursing documentation, as well as SISWeb, an innovative web-based tool that enhances surgery management, and StatCom O.R., a real-time, web-based workflow communications tool that instantly communicates the status of a case or staff member, or the location of a patient or important equipment. Over the last decade, Cedars-Sinai has seen tremendous growth and advances in its surgical programs, resulting in increased demand for operating room services. In addition to growing demand, the medical center is challenged with having its operating rooms spread across multiple floors. They needed an information system that would optimize communications and workflow for maximized productivity throughout the department. They chose SIS for its powerful solutions to address their geographic challenges while achieving improvements in efficiency.

With the implementation of the Surgical Information Systems technology, Cedars-Sinai will have powerful tools to help solve their geographic challenges while achieving additional efficiency goals. The robust SIS technology addresses all of the components of the perioperative process, from scheduling to documentation to workflow. The system's ability to easily interface with other systems will allow the organization to achieve two-way communication among various systems, eliminating redundancy and reducing paper wherever possible, allowing for optimal patient workflow. Cedars-Sinai will also gain the ability to get real-time information on its surgical cases and improve resource utilization.

"The SIS solution will allow Cedars-Sinai to achieve its organizational objectives, including ensuring the delivery of high quality, safe patient care, while improving patient, physician and staff satisfaction," says Bob Schlotman, vice president of Marketing for Surgical Information Systems. "The implementation of this system will provide Cedars-Sinai with enterprise-wide benefits in perioperative services, such as surgical scheduling, surgical workflow, materials management, charge capture, documentation, reporting and decision support." Schlotman adds, "The selection process at Cedars-Sinai was highly consensus-based. Everyone who will touch the system had a say in the selection process, including their EIS department, anesthesia, surgeons, OR management, scheduling, and materials management. This will give them superior buy-in and user acceptance of the technology."

According to Richard Jackson, CEO of Surgical Information Systems, Cedars-Sinai and Surgical Information Systems missions are highly compatible. "At SIS, our mission is to improve the quality, organization, delivery and outcomes of surgery through health care information technology." Jackson adds, "We focus not only on improving the operating efficiencies of the surgery department through technology, but also on helping the organization deliver the best possible patient care and safety. Also, by providing the necessary tools to optimize workflow through our StatCom O.R. product, we will help Cedars-Sinai to standardize practices, eliminate unnecessary disparities, and improve quality, leading to improved satisfaction with staff, patients and physicians."

Surgical Information Systems (SIS) provides automated intelligence across the entire perioperative continuum, empowering hospitals to enhance patient care and business operations. SIS centralizes and unites all information exchanged between the people, processes and resources associated with surgery to deliver fast, accurate and comprehensive information precisely when it is needed most - at the scheduling desk, point-of-care, O.R. control center, surgeon's office, with materials management, and in the executive boardroom. Surgical Information Systems is the exclusive technology provider of the Eclipsys Sunrise Surgical solution (NASDAQ: ECLP), and holds strategic partnerships with both Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) Corporations.
