ANADIGICS Introduces World's Smallest Integrated Digital and Analog Tuners

WARREN, N.J., June 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ANADIGICS, Inc. , a leading supplier of wireless and broadband solutions, today introduced new digital and analog tuners that provide complete RF front-end functionality in the industry's smallest package size. The highly integrated AIT1010 and AIT1021 offer excellent performance and space savings for cable and terrestrial broadband tuning applications, including digital television (DTV) and high definition television (HDTV). ANADIGICS' new family of integrated tuners enables high growth platforms, such as set-top boxes, multi-tuner personal video recorders (PVRs)/digital video recorders (DVRs), televisions, and personal computers, which industry analysts project will achieve a 45 percent unit compound average growth rate (CAGR) from 2004 to 2007.

The AIT1010 digital and analog video tuner offers ideal performance for all television applications, including multi-tuner DVRs/PVRs operating in mixed signal environments. The AIT1021 digital video and data tuner provides exceptional performance for digital television applications, including off-air digital receivers. These tuners feature a conversion gain of 36 dB, which minimizes the need for external amplifiers thereby reducing system PCB space requirements. The AIT1021 also offers integrated RF gain control to further reduce the external component count. ANADIGICS' AIT1010 and AIT1021 exhibit excellent noise figures ensuring outstanding picture quality at low signal levels. The design of these tuners has been optimized to offer industry-leading performance and to achieve a minimum bill of materials (BOM) cost for new designs.
"The high growth PVR/DVR market is being fueled by sophisticated platforms that incorporate multi-tuner functionality, mixed-signal performance, and space-intensive recording hardware, such as hard drives. ANADIGICS' new generation of tuners is designed for single- and multi-tuner environments to provide the highest levels of linearity and channel selectivity for broadband low-noise tuning, which is an essential requirement for service providers to make full use of available spectrum," said Ron Michels, Senior Vice President of Broadband Products at ANADIGICS. "The introduction of these highly integrated tuners solidifies our position as the world's leading supplier of tuner ICs for CATV applications, and further strengthens our reach into new high growth segments of the tuner market."
The AIT1010 and AIT1021 offer exceptional linearity and low noise figures, representing an ideal configuration for systems using a densely loaded spectrum. These tuners do not require a low noise amplifier (LNA) at the device input to achieve excellent noise figures in either singled-ended or differential implementations, further reducing the external component count. The AIT1021 features integrated RF gain control over a 25 dB range, which eliminates the need for external PIN-diode gain control circuitry. The tuners operate from a single +5 V supply, offer two-wire serial programming for compatibility with fast I2C buses, and provide four selectable device addresses for use in multi-tuner applications. The tuners use a double-conversion architecture to achieve superior channel selectivity and support a range of first IF frequencies, which reduces interference for multi-tuner applications.
ANADIGICS' AIT1010 and AIT1021 are available in 40 pin 6 mm by 6 mm by 1 mm surface-mount packages, which represent a significant space savings compared with other silicon-based tuner solutions. The Company's new integrated RF tuners combine upconverters, downconverters, dual phase-locked-loop synthesizers, and voltage-controlled oscillators with integrated on-die high Q varactors in a single QFN surface-mount package. This new line of highly integrated RF tuners combines RF CMOS and ANADIGICS' InGaP-Plus(TM) technologies. InGaP-Plus(TM) technology integrates field effect transistors and bipolar devices on the same InGaP GaAs die.
Pricing is $2.50 for the AIT1010 and $2.00 for the AIT1021, in quantities of 10,000 units. Samples are available on a selective basis. For additional information, contact ANADIGICS by phone (908) 668-5000 or FAX (908) 668-5132 or visit the Company's Web site at http://www.anadigics.com/.
