Enterprise Resilience is New Platform for Global Competitiveness, Says Enterra Solutions CEO DeAngelis

YARDLEY, Pa. --(Business Wire)-- June 2, 2005 -- Speech at New Map Game Event Outlines New Organizational Architecture, Best-Practice Response to Globalization

Enterprise Resilience is an organizational breakthrough - a new performance platform for sustainable competitiveness in the face of global pressures and opportunities, said Enterra Solutions CEO Steve DeAngelis in a speech today.

Speaking at The New Map Game, a strategic exercise designed to explore the changing dynamics of globalization, DeAngelis detailed Enterprise Resilience - a new organizational architecture that transforms private- and public-sector organizations, unifying their best practices and systems so that they can sense and respond to their environment "quickly, effectively and consistently," he said. Enterprise Resilience will confer "a new level of enterprise performance and a sustainable advantage over even the most technologically competitive nations," DeAngelis added.

"Enterprise Resilience is the model for the high-performance organization in the fourth wave of globalization," he said.

"The value of Enterprise Resilience is that it provides organizations with a flexible platform for effective operation in the face of global disconnects and disruptions," said Thomas P.M. Barnett, principal and founding partner of The New Rule Set Project, which organized The New Map Game. Barnett, a noted analyst and consultant, is the New York Times bestselling author of The Pentagon's New Map, a comprehensive study of globalization, rule sets, rule set gaps, and new international challenges. "Enterprise Resilience enables businesses and government agencies to respond to - and take advantage of - global stressors and opportunities."

According to DeAngelis, an organization becomes a Resilient Enterprise when it unifies several functions - security, compliance, information integration and business process optimization - into a single system. The system is created by identifying critical assets, establishing the rules and best practices that support the assets, then translating the rules into executable code that runs on the organization's information technology architecture. The resulting platform automates security and regulatory procedures and business actions, and enables senior managers to monitor processes and take direct action when needed.

Enterra Solutions creates Resilient Enterprises through a best-practices consulting methodology, and a technology solution that transforms rule sets into code and gives managers real-time information and collaborative control capabilities.

Traditionally, DeAngelis explained, organizations have responded to stress in a piecemeal fashion, using separate departments to manage security, compliance, competitive intelligence and business process optimization. But the times demand a systemic approach to a systemic challenge, he said, noting that rule sets embedded into cross-organization systems allow the organization to respond as a whole.

The New Map Game, also co-organized by Alidade Incorporated, explored rule sets and rule set gaps in the fourth wave of globalization. In the exercise, participants - who included senior leaders of global businesses and government agencies - took the role of core states, emerging core states, gap states and non-threat actors, planning and executing strategies over the span of a decade, from 2006 to 2016. Throughout, the players tried to execute their own versions of a resilient response.

DeAngelis likened the resilient response to the performance of a golf ball when struck by a club - "the ball is deformed by the blow of the club - but because it's resilient it springs back. It regains its shape, and in so doing, it transforms the energy of the blow into its own energy. It takes off down the fairway toward the green - its goal." He compared the Resilient Enterprise to Henry Ford's legendary River Rouge plant that introduced the assembly line - "an entirely new approach to a challenge, a new level of performance that redefines what it means to be competitive and responsive." Resilient Enterprises will be able to achieve greater levels of market presence, trust and valuation, DeAngelis said.
