Entropic Communications Appoints New Vice President of Engineering; Semiconductor Industry Veteran Andre Chartrand Joins Entropic Management Team

SAN DIEGO --(Business Wire)-- July 20, 2005 -- Entropic Communications, developers of chip technology for home networking of digital entertainment using the existing coax infrastructure, announced the appointment of Andre Chartrand as its vice president of engineering. Chartrand is an industry veteran with more than 25 years of experience in semiconductor design, development and engineering management with system-on-a-chip companies. In this key executive management role, Chartrand will lead Entropic's next-generation development of its c.LINK(TM) chip technology, formally endorsed by the Multimedia over Coax Alliance(TM) (MoCA) as the core technology for its emerging product design specification.

"With his broad experience in semiconductor design, planning and engineering management, Andre will play a pivotal role in helping to grow our company and expand our product offerings," said Patrick Henry, Entropic president and CEO. "As we enter a crucial time with our global OEM partners who are testing our product in large-scale field trials, Andre will lend his considerable expertise to ramp up production and commercial deployment of current and next-generation c.LINK technology. Andre's background is a perfect fit for Entropic and very complementary to the existing system engineering and semiconductor experience that we already have on our team."

Prior to joining Entropic, Chartrand was the vice president of engineering for Transwitch Communications, where he was responsible for 150 design engineers worldwide and the introduction of 13 chips. In his 25-year high-tech career he has held VP and director-level engineering management positions with leading multinational companies including BitBlitz Communications (now Intersil), Cognigine (now Huawei), Velio Communications, Cradle Technologies, Chromatic Research, VLSI Technology, Inc., GTE Microcircuit and Mitel Semiconductor.

"Entropic has an excellent opportunity to create and dominate a new consumer electronics category for home networking of digital entertainment," remarked Chartrand. "With the endorsement of MoCA and the subsequent product development efforts underway for MoCA-enabled consumer electronics devices, we expect increased demand for our c.LINK technology integrated inside consumer products next year and beyond."

Chartrand holds bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Ecole Polytechnique, University of Montreal.

Dr. Anton Monk, Entropic's current vice president of engineering, will assume the role of vice president of technology. In this new role, Dr. Monk will focus on industry standards activities, next generation product development and technical business development. Dr. Monk will also continue to contribute his vast system engineering expertise to core c.LINK product development activities. Dr. Monk is a co-founder of Entropic Communications, along with Dr. Itzhak Gurantz, Entropic's chairman & CTO, and Ladd Wardani, Entropic's vice president of business development.

Entropic's c.LINK chipset, when built into a variety of consumer electronics such as set-top boxes, digital video recorders and televisions, permits seamless networking over the existing coax cable infrastructure at speeds as high as 270 Mbps. The high speed and reliability of coax make it the ideal medium for networking high-bandwidth applications such as video.

Entropic is a founding member of MoCA, formed to standardize technologies for linking consumer entertainment devices over existing coax cabling. Other members include Cisco Systems, Comcast, EchoStar, Matsushita Electric (Panasonic), Motorola, RadioShack Corporation and Toshiba. For more information: www.mocalliance.com.
