Aliph's Jawbone Mobile Phone Headset Wins Prestigious 2004 GOOD DESIGN Award; Latest Honor Comes from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design

BRISBANE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Jan. 24, 2005 -- Aliph, the developer of next-generation mobile audio processing technologies, today announced that Jawbone, its acclaimed adaptive headset, has been awarded a 2004 GOOD DESIGN Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design competition, the oldest and most important design competition worldwide. Jawbone continues to amass awards, and was an honoree for the Innovations 2005 Design and Engineering Showcase in the Wireless Communications category at this month's Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

In addition, the Jawbone design recently was nominated in the Industrial Design category for the WIRED Rave Awards, which celebrate "The People Changing Your Mind," leading innovators in 14 categories including Industrial Design, Business Leader, Film Director, Architect, Scientist and Tech Innovator.

Jawbone is a revolutionary new headset for mobile phones, designed to perform at a radically higher level to overcome the challenges of a noisy environment. Jawbone combines advanced technology with breakthrough product design to deliver greater performance, comfort and style for an exceptional user experience. Jawbone's sophisticated proprietary technology delivers dramatic results in audio quality by:

-- Subtracting background noise

-- Enhancing incoming audio

-- Increasing intelligibility

Jawbone's sophisticated and expressive design was created by San Francisco-based industrial designer Yves Behar, of fuseproject. "The Jawbone headset is an expression of personal style combined with advanced technology," Behar said. "It's a great honor to be a recipient of this esteemed award from The Chicago Athenaeum."

Last year Jawbone was recognized by many publications, including Time and Fortune magazines. In fact, in 2004, BusinessWeek recognized Jawbone twice -- bestowing an Industrial Design Excellence Award in July and, in December, honoring Jawbone as one of The Best Products Of 2004. In November, Time Magazine ranked Jawbone as one of the "Coolest Inventions 2004," and in December Fortune awarded the headset a DESIGN 2004 award for the "Best Products of the Year: Electronics." In addition, Jawbone won a CNET Editors' Choice and, at September's DEMOmobile conference won the audience choice award for Best Headset in a competition between Aliph, Plantronics and Logitech.

"The move to offer superb technology packaged in an elegant, intelligent design that provides the best customer experience is a new trend in consumer electronics," said Didier Diaz, Aliph's vice president of product development and marketing. "We are proud to be at the forefront of this movement, and to be recognized for our efforts by The Chicago Athenaeum."

The Museum's historic GOOD DESIGN program was founded in Chicago in 1950 by Edgar J. Kaufmann, Jr. with the participation of some of America's most important designers: Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, Alexander Girard, George Nelson, Florence Knoll, Harry Bertoia, Finn Juhl, and Russel Wright -- pioneers of American and modern design.

Jawbone is available for many of today's most popular mobile phones by Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericsson at www.jawbone.com and is priced at $149.95.

About Aliph

Aliph was founded in 1999 by Alex Asseily and Hosain Rahman, two young entrepreneurs who met as Stanford undergrads. The pair shared a belief that voice would be the dominant interface for mobile devices and that creating a noise-free environment was critical to delivering an improved mobile communications experience. They enlisted Greg Burnett from Lawrence Livermore National Labs and began building a team of recognized experts in mobile communications and consumer electronics products -- spanning Apple Computer, Palm and Motorola, among others -- to achieve the company's goals. Since 2002, Aliph's technology has been optimized for DARPA to maximize communications clarity in the most hostile conditions. Headquartered in Brisbane, Calif., Aliph is funded by Mayfield and private investors. To purchase Jawbone, please go to www.jawbone.com.
