Mocana Joins Freescale Developer Alliance Program to Deliver Low-Latency Security for Network Devices at the Silicon Layer

MENLO PARK, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Feb. 21, 2005 -- Mocana Delivers First Security Solution for Network Devices that Seamlessly Integrates with Freescale ColdFire(R) and PowerQUICC(TM) Processors to Fully Leverage Hardware Acceleration

Mocana Corporation, a leading developer of low-latency security solutions for voice, video and data networks, today announced that Mocana has joined the Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. Developers Alliance Program and has delivered the first security software solutions that can fully leverage the hardware cryptography acceleration capabilities built into Freescale's latest PowerQUICC(TM) and ColdFire(R) processor families. Mocana's widely deployed Embedded Security Suite, which now includes IPsec and IKE, SSL/TLS Server and Client, SSH Server and Client, RADIUS Client, and the Mocana Acceleration Harness, integrates seamlessly with these Freescale PowerQUICC and ColdFire processors, and is uniquely architected to maximize the performance of hardware acceleration to secure network devices at the silicon layer. Free evaluation software downloads are available at http://www.mocana.com/evaluate.html.

"Our partnership with Freescale will drive the adoption of Mocana software into millions more networked devices," said Adrian Turner, Mocana Chief Executive Officer. "Time and again, high profile companies are choosing Mocana to simplify the complex problems associated with securing their network devices, without sacrificing performance."

Today's open source-derived embedded security solutions have a synchronous core that can make them inefficient for hardware acceleration and thereby deliver less performance benefit. In addition, open source-based solutions require a relatively large footprint -- with popular implementations of open SSL and SSH severs having a combined footprint in excess of 500k vs. 110k for Mocana's SSL/TLS Server, SSL/TLS Client and SSH Server combined. As most embedded security vendors are primarily open source-based, they're not able to deliver the same level of benefit to users of Freescale's hardware cryptography acceleration based processors.

Mocana's widely deployed Embedded Security Suite, which now includes IPsec and the Mocana Acceleration Harness, delivers new levels of ease-of-use, performance, the industry's smallest footprint, as well as an asynchronous core that is uniquely suited to take full advantage of hardware acceleration. These capabilities will enable Mocana and Freescale to open entirely new markets where memory and performance concerns had formerly presented barriers. These include markets such as VoIP, IP video, aerospace and defense, industrial automation and control, automotive, consumer electronics and retail point-of-sale.

Mocana's software includes unique benefits for Freescale users:

Small footprint

-- 60KB for IPsec

-- 50k for SSL/TLS Server; 65k for SSL/TLS Server; 70k SSH Server; 110k Combined

-- Footprint can be reduced by approximately 15% with hardware acceleration

Ease-of-use

-- No knowledge of security required

-- Integrates into target devices in hours

-- Out-of-the-box support for hardware accelerators and 12 operating systems

Trusted

-- Used in mission-critical settings and already shipping on millions of devices

"Mocana's comprehensive support of Freescale's hardware accelerator based ColdFire and PowerQUICC processor lines with a full suite of embedded security protocols is great news for our customer base," said Bill Krakar, Tools Program Manager from Freescale. "Due to the fact that Mocana solutions are built from the ground up with an asynchronous core, they enable our customers to fully leverage our hardware cryptography acceleration capabilities with the small footprint, high performance solutions required in embedded systems."

Mocana and Freescale will jointly present a Webinar entitled "Securing Networked Devices" during a free online event on Tuesday, February 22, 2005, 11a-12p EST/8-9a PST. More information is available at http://www.mocana.com/freescaleReg.html.

Mocana customers include Nortel Networks, AMX Corporation, Centillium, Radvision and Performance Technologies. Mocana also partners with leading Linux software platform for communications providers such as MontaVista Software.
