U.S. Government's Rural Utilities Service Grants Alcatel 'Technical Acceptance' for 1677 SL
DALLAS, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alcatel today announced that its 1677 SL has been certified by the U.S. Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Technical Standards Committee "A" for inclusion in the RUS list of materials. This acceptance enables rural telephone and utility companies to purchase and deploy the Alcatel 1677 SL.
A branch of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the RUS administers programs that strive to improve the quality of life in rural America by providing rural companies with the means to support multiple services at a minimum cost.
"We are pleased that the Alcatel 1677 SL has been awarded RUS certification," said Steven Pickett, senior VP and general manager of Alcatel's optical networking activities in North America. "Thanks to the U.S. Rural Utilities Service, rural network operators can easily take advantage of the latest innovations to offer advanced services to their communities. By enabling the delivery of broadband services, the 1677 SL plays a key role in the evolution of our nation's telecommunications infrastructure."
The Alcatel 1677 SL is a powerful, high-density optical bandwidth management platform that incorporates next-generation SONET, fully digital cross-connect, and DWDM capabilities into a single platform. Leveraging unprecedented flexibility and scalability, carriers can cost-effectively deliver bandwidth-intensive services, while reducing their capital equipment and operations costs. The Alcatel 1677 SL provides carriers a smooth transition from a stacked ADM central office to a cross-connect that performs wideband grooming for the delivery of advanced services.
In addition to the 1677 SL, the list of Alcatel's RUS compliant equipment includes the Alcatel 1603 SMX, the Alcatel Litespan, and advanced service access manager (ASAM) solutions, as well as the Alcatel 7340 Fiber-to-the-User (FTTU).
