Jabber, Inc. Delivers New Interoperability and Collaboration Hooks in 4.1 Release; Jabber XCP and Jabber IM Advanced 4.1 Include SIP/SIMPLE Gateway Option and External Command Interface

DENVER --(Business Wire)-- Feb. 8, 2005 -- Jabber, Inc., a leading provider of real-time presence and messaging solutions, today announced the immediate availability of Jabber XCP 4.1 and Jabber IM Advanced 4.1. Jabber XCP, the company's flagship presence and messaging platform, is designed to extend the power of presence to any real-time application, system or service. Jabber IM Advanced is a robust, scalable solution for secure enterprise instant messaging (EIM). Both products are based on the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP), the first protocol to be approved by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as an Internet standard for instant messaging and presence technologies.

Optional in the new 4.1 release is a native Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) stack and SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions (SIMPLE) gateway that allows Jabber XCP and Jabber IM Advanced users to seamlessly communicate with users of SIP/SIMPLE-based systems. The initial release of the gateway has been extensively tested with IBM's Lotus IM product. Jabber, Inc. disclosed it is testing and certifying interoperability with additional SIP-based systems on an on-going basis. The SIP/SIMPLE gateway adds to the company's already released interoperability gateways to Short Message Service (SMS), Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), and Instant Messaging and Presence Service (IMPS).

Also included in version 4.1 is an External Command Interface (ECI), which Jabber, Inc. describes as a generic component for integrating with any third party application, such as WebEx's collaboration platform. ECI allows Jabber XCP and Jabber IM Advanced users to launch third party applications directly from their desktop or mobile instant messaging (IM) clients.

"Buyers of instant messaging and presence solutions shouldn't have to worry that users on different products can't talk to each other. Jabber, Inc.'s move to include a native SIP stack and SIP/SIMPLE gateway in its core XMPP-based product line underscores its commitment to interoperability," said Robert Mahowald, research manager, IDC. "This is a key proof of concept for interoperability, and it strengthens the market by putting the needs of customers first."

"Today's announcement demonstrates Jabber, Inc.'s ongoing commitment to extend and federate our solutions with the broadest possible set of complementary and competing technologies," said Tony Bamonti, president of Jabber, Inc. "Jabber XCP is the most open and extensible presence framework for building scalable, real-time applications that deliver customer value through flexibility, freedom of choice, technology independence and investment protection."
