IMlogic Threat Center reports Gabby-A impacting instant messaging networks; offers immediate guidelines for protection against variants

--(Business Wire)-- -0- *T WHAT: Industry leader IMlogic (www.imlogic.com) is warning customers that Gabby-A impacted users of the AOL(R) Instant Messaging Network today. Through IMlogic Threat Center's rapid response and partnership with the instant messaging (IM) networks, Gabby-A is no longer propagating through the AIM network. The worm was propagated when an instant messaging user clicked on an attached URL. The URL linked to a Web site which initiated the malware and sent similar messages to all of the user's buddy list. In a code routine very similar to the Kelvir virus impacting the MSN Messaging Network, Gabby-A leverages social engineering to trick unsuspecting users into clicking on the link. An unsuspecting user would have received the following message: Hey check out this! http://adwordsvideo.com/gallery/pictures.php To learn more about the Gabby-A worm visit the IMlogic IM and P2P Threat Center at: http://www.imlogic.com/im_threat_center/index.asp In combination with the IMlogic Threat Center, AOL has blocked further propagation of this worm on the AOL Instant Messaging Network. Organizations should be on guard for the likely propagation of variants of the Gabby-A virus. The ease of variant production for this type of worm makes an attractive target for copy-cat writers. To protect your organization, ensure that all desktop systems have been updated with the latest security patches and that all out of date clients have been blocked from accessing the AOL Instant Messaging Network. IMlogic IM Manager(TM) provides the capability to block out of date clients ensuring enterprise security against client vulnerabilities.
