Samsung and Digeo Announce Deal to Launch Samsung Home Media Center With Moxi(TM)

KIRKLAND, Wash., April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., one of the world's leading consumer electronics companies, and Digeo, Inc., a leading provider of media center software and services, today announced their intention to enter into a deal to produce the next-generation Moxi(TM) II Media Center product family. Both Charter Communications and Adelphia have agreed in principle to purchase the Samsung Home Media Center products, which leverage Digeo's cost-reducing X-Stream silicon architecture, and Moxi(TM) II Media Center software and applications, in addition to Samsung's broad technology portfolio, manufacturing, and marketing expertise.

"The Samsung Home Media Center will be a benchmark home entertainment product," said Robert May, Interim President and CEO of Charter Communications, Inc. "The next-generation Moxi product family will deliver the ease of use, advanced features, and flexibility our customers desire, with the added value of the trusted Samsung Electronics brand."
In response to the announcement, Adelphia President and COO Ron Cooper stated, "Our current Moxi Media Center deployment has been enthusiastically embraced by subscribers and Adelphia is very excited for the initial delivery of Samsung Home Media Center products this fall."
The new family of Samsung Home Media Center products will offer one of the most advanced, cost-effective single-TV and whole home solutions on the market. The Samsung Home Media Center will not only provide the same wide range of services and applications available in current Moxi offerings -- including HDTV, digital video recording, On Demand, telephony, home networking, Moxi Jukebox, Moxi Games, and Moxi Photos -- but will be the first media center to leverage the technologically advanced and cost-reducing Digeo X-Stream chip set. The new silicon combines the functions of more than two-dozen existing media center components into a revolutionary architecture that reduces the cost of a media center by up to 40 percent. Digeo X-Stream allows for a thinner, sleeker media center design and also extends the next-generation media center beyond two rooms to reach across the whole-home environment.
"We are pleased to be bringing powerful media center technologies to market with Digeo," said Gee Sung Choi, president of Digital Media Division for Samsung Electronics. "Our Home Media Center solution launching this fall will be our marquee cable product, setting new standards for operators by delivering unprecedented, highly valued media center services and applications throughout the home."
JungSoo Shin, president and general manager of the Consumer Electronics Division of Samsung Electronics America, Inc. added, "Samsung remains committed to driving growth of our CE business in the United States by striking alliances with partners such as Digeo, Charter, and Adelphia."
"Working with Samsung ensures that our partners will benefit from their world class manufacturing design and marketing," said Digeo, Inc. Chief Executive Officer Jim Billmaier. "Digeo is proud to collaborate with the leading consumer electronics company to bring the Samsung Home Media Center to market."
