Kayote Implements Innovative PacketCable Multimedia-enabled SIP Server Solution

SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)-- April 1, 2005 -- Kayote's Solution, Now Integrated with CableMatrix PCMM platform, Allows Broadband Cable Operators to Offer VoIP Services with Toll Quality to Their Customers--without the Need for a Softswitch

Kayote Networks, Inc., an expert in VoIP interoperability technology and developer of advanced IP communication services, announced today that it has implemented an innovative PacketCable(TM) Multimedia (PCMM)-enabled SIP Server, which is being demonstrated at the NCTA National Show this week in San Francisco. The demonstration is located in the CableMatrix booth, No. 26 in the GameNET pavilion.

Kayote has embedded CableMatrix's PCMM COPS Stack into its SIP Proxy, which makes possible the delivery of SIP telephony services with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) via PCMM technology. Kayote's solution is a milestone in PCMM implementation for SIP phone calls with QoS to the real PSTN.

The demonstration setup at the National Show includes a BigBand Cuda CMTS, Kayote SIP Proxy with the embedded COPS Stack, CableMatrix ODSP(TM) PCMM Policy Server for authorizing the QoS, and the Kayote-hosted SIP server in New York, which is connected to the PSTN. In addition to the NCTA setup, the SIP Server has interoperated successfully with the ODSP Policy Server and a PCMM-enabled Cisco uBR 7246 VXR CMTS.

"We are working with Kayote's platform for its efficiency and its open, modular architecture, which allows for easy integration with our stack," said CableMatrix CEO Larry Rubin. "VoIP, and specifically SIP, is becoming increasingly important as a value-added service for cable operators. The ability to ensure the quality of a voice call is imperative, and we believe that this product will provide a simple solution to accomplish that."

"Kayote is committed to providing interoperability solutions in a non-proprietary, standards-compliant framework," stated Baruch Sterman, CEO of Kayote Networks. "We were delighted to collaborate with CableMatrix in order to provide a SIP to COPS/PCMM network element that can integrate seamlessly into the call flow and allow operators to choose best of breed solutions for their other components."

SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is a signaling-type protocol that enables different types of devices, such as computers, handheld gadgets, and telephones, to "talk" with each other seamlessly in an IP network. Providers of SIP-based services, such as Voice over IP, traditionally rely on a best-effort broadband connection. However, a guaranteed QoS solution is required for optimal performance.

Using Kayote's integrated solution, broadband cable operators can now offer SIP VoIP service with toll quality to their customers--without the need for a softswitch. The cable operator's only additional requirements are a standards-based Policy Server and upgraded CMTS software to support PCMM.

By integrating the COPS Stack, the Kayote SIP Server has become, in effect, a PCMM-compliant Application Manager. The CableMatrix COPS Stack, part of CableMatrix's applications enablement portfolio of products, is an easily and rapidly deployable software module that enables Application Managers to communicate with any PCMM Policy Server, and any CMTS that supports the PCMM standard, in full compliance with the CableLabs(R) PCMM IO2 specification.
