Texas Instruments Newest DSL Infrastructure Platform Combines Voice and Data in One Design

VENICE, Italy, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Broadband World Forum -- An integrated voice and data (IVD) reference design that addresses telecommunications service provider's need to provide triple-play delivery of voice, video and data is being announced today by Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) at the Broadband World Forum. The AC7 IVD provides DSL equipment manufacturers with a flexible design architecture by combining the AC7 central office chipset and narrowband POTS voice functionality with TI's Telogy Software(TM) for Voice over Packet (VoP) technology. This new platform allows service providers to quickly deploy IVD line cards in DSLAM, DLC and MDU applications to easily upgrade their large installed base of POTS subscribers for DSL service.
TI's AC7 IVD platform utilizes Wintegra's high-performance WinPath(TM) Access Packet Processor for VoP, DSL and IP multicast traffic aggregation and data management. Both VoP and packet aggregation capabilities can be provided as add-on modules. The line interface for POTS is managed by Legerity's subscriber line interface circuit (SLIC) and subscriber line audio-processing circuit (SLAC) technology, providing fully programmable transmission and loop supervision parameters.
"TI has been committed to DSL development since the industry's inception and our latest advancements in silicon and software demonstrate that we understand the needs of carriers looking to offer the most advanced DSL and voice services," said Greg Jones, general manager of TI's DSL business unit. "As more offerings become available via DSL, and the integration of voice and data becomes an essential requirement for today's competitive equipment vendors, TI aims to stay ahead of the technology curve through the continued development of products that will recognize the full potential of DSL coverage."
The AC7 IVD solution's lead customer is Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Limited where it is used in the company's Access Gateway platforms for residential and business service. Fujitsu's Integrated Voice Line Card Subsystem provides ADSL and voice from a single unit providing V5, ATM BLES or H.248 options for signaling.
"Our Geostream Access Gateway solution was designed to meet the needs of carriers migrating their networks to NGN whilst supporting legacy services and backhaul," said Andy Stevenson, General Manager, Fujitsu Telecommunications, Europe. "TI's AC7 IVD easily integrates into our designs and offers unmatched performance and density for voice and data in a single unit."
TI's AC7 IVD supports industry-leading ADSL standards ADSL1, ADSL2 and ADSL2+. For packet voice processing the IVD platform supports G.711, G.729AB, as well as a wide range of other low bit-rate codecs. Telephony signaling protocol and conversion to and from the packet network signaling protocols, such as SIP, H.323 (IP), MEGACO, or MGCP are efficiently run on the Winpath processor. AC7 performance is fully tested and proven via TI's interOps Test Labs, streamlining provider qualification and decreasing time-to-market.
