CALTEL Announces Sarah DeYoung as New Executive Director

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- CALTEL, the California Association of Competitive Telecommunications Companies, announced today that it has selected Sarah DeYoung as its new executive director.
"Sarah has a wealth of experience and she's very familiar with the regulatory environment in California and Washington, D.C.," said John Sumpter, chairman of CALTEL. "It's a critical moment for our industry and we're very fortunate to have such a knowledgeable and effective advocate for an open and competitive telecommunications market joining CALTEL."

Ms. DeYoung is an industry veteran with more than 22 years' management experience in the telecommunications industry. DeYoung's advocacy for local market access issues is reinforced by her extensive knowledge of telecom financial markets, operations and business-to-business negotiations.
"Competitive carriers have a critical role to play in the recovery of the state's telecom market and in bringing price-competition and new, innovative services to both business and residential customers," said DeYoung. "I'm looking forward to working with competitive phone companies, state and federal regulators, consumer and business groups and, yes, even SBC and Verizon, to make sure the telecom market stays competitive, innovative and healthy."
"I'm delighted that Sarah agreed to become CALTEL's executive director," said former executive director, Nikayla Nail Thomas. "CALTEL's members will benefit enormously from her insights and experience."
Nikayla Nail Thomas resigned to pursue interests outside of telecommunications and led the CALTEL team that recruited Ms. DeYoung.
DeYoung began her career as a telecom accounting supervisor and has had numerous management positions in local services telecommunications. Most recently, she served as director of local services and access management for AT&T. In that role, she managed the business-to-business relationship with SBC across its 13-state operating region.
