Cingular Wireless Names Brian Shay West Region President

REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Brian Shay has been named president of Cingular's West region, following the company's merger with AT&T Wireless. With more than 46 million customers and a nationwide network, Cingular is now the nation's largest wireless provider. Formerly of AT&T Wireless, Shay will be located at the regional headquarters in Redmond, Washington.


Shay will direct one of four regions in the country for Cingular. The new Cingular has the largest digital voice and data network in the nation and will ultimately offer customers the largest international coverage of any U.S. carrier.
In his new role, Shay will be responsible for Cingular's operations in 13 western states, including Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Shay will oversee all financial and operational matters for the markets in his region.
"Brian brings proven leadership skills and experience to Cingular Wireless," said Stan Sigman, president and CEO of Cingular Wireless. "He has demonstrated exceptional value to the AT&T Wireless team, and I am pleased to have him lead Cingular's West region."
Today's announcement finalizes the top leadership of the new Cingular. In addition to Sigman, who continues to serve as president and CEO, the new leadership team includes Ralph de la Vega, who will continue to serve as chief operating officer. All four regional presidents will report to de la Vega.
Other regional presidents named today include LeAnn Priebe for the Central region, Steve Hodges for the Northeast region and Steve Sitton for the Southeast region.
An experienced wireless communications executive, Shay formerly served as executive vice president -- sales and distribution for AT&T Wireless, where he was responsible for the consumer sales organization, distribution development in all channels and sales operations. Shay developed and directed sales strategy leading the integration of sales initiatives with direct and indirect sales channels, customer relationship management, marketing, wireless network services, finance, and distribution and operations.
Shay earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in business from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Shay and his wife and children reside in the Seattle area.
