UPOC Networks Names Steven Spencer Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer; Bell Labs, Lucent, Philips and CBS Marketwatch Executive to Lead New Initiatives
NEW YORK --(Business Wire)-- Oct. 7, 2004 -- Steven Spencer, who most recently served as chief technology officer for Critical Mention, has been named to the new post of senior vice president and chief technology officer for UPOC Networks. The announcement was made today by David Friedensohn, president & CEO.
UPOC Networks (www.UPOCnetworks.com) is the most comprehensive mobile community solution for carriers, consumers, media companies and marketers to communicate via SMS (text messaging), WAP (wireless Internet), voice, MMS (multimedia messaging), BREW, Java and more.

Prior to his recent post as CTO at Critical Mention, Spencer served in several executive posts at Pinnacor (acquired by CBS Marketwatch), including executive vice president and general manager, access business and CTO. From 1995-2000, he served in various executive and managerial roles at Lucent Technologies, including director, wireless applications; and director, business development and strategy. He began his career in 1980 at AT&T/Bell Laboratories as a member of the technical staff and rapidly rose through the ranks to leadership positions in technical development, product management and business development.
An electrical engineering graduate (B.S.) from Union College, Spencer has a master's degree in engineering from Cornell University and an MBA in marketing from New York University's Stern School of Business.
His industry affiliations include executive board member, CTIA Internet Caucus.
