Mutual Service Corp. Keeps Thousands of Financial Dealers Connected With Citrix Despite Data Center Drenching

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 29, 2004 -- Florida Financial Planning Brokerage Uses Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite to Keep Business Running as Usual During Worst Hurricane Season in 20 Years

Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS), the global leader in access infrastructure solutions, today announced that Mutual Service Corp. (MSC), a leading financial planning broker headquartered in West Palm Beach, Florida, maintained business continuity during the worst hurricane season in 20 years with the Citrix(R) MetaFrame(R) Access Suite - despite wind and water damage to its facilities. With Citrix access infrastructure, MSC was able to protect critical information and applications while ensuring uninterrupted, secure Web access to these applications for multiple broker/dealers and several thousand independent registered representatives. As a result, independent brokers across the nation were able to continue working with no disruption, saving the company the potential loss of several million dollars in gross commissions each week, while the entire data center was moved from its Florida headquarters to more than 500 miles away in Atlanta, Ga., and then back home again.

When the wave of hurricanes hit Florida's east coast, beginning with Hurricane Frances in late August, the MSC IT staff had only three days to execute its disaster recovery plan by physically transferring the data center from Florida to Atlanta. Through the MetaFrame Access Suite, all independent representatives were transferred to MSC's backup server seamlessly. And with a secure single point of access provided through Citrix MetaFrame Secure Access Manager - which MSC has customized as "Advisor Online," each dealer maintained Web-based access to applications and information without any glitches.

"With such short notice before Hurricane Frances swept over us, we were forced to prepare for a disaster and move all of our operations out of state in only three days while all of our representatives across 50 states kept working without a hitch," said Chris McDaniel, senior vice president and chief information officer of MSC. "Our recovery has been a resounding success largely due to Citrix technology. In fact, August and September were financially the strongest months of the year so far."

The company initially standardized on Citrix technology when the IT department sought on demand application access for its representatives, all of whom worked with different computing environments and hardware, while at the same time adhering to strict regulatory mandates specifically for brokers such as the Anti-Money Laundering Act. With Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server, the IT department pulled together all of its disparate systems in one secure centralized data center, allowing IT staff to manage application uploads and upgrades easily from the New York home-base. And with Citrix MetaFrame Secure Access Manager, all of the brokers have a single-point-of-access to real-time applications such as trading systems and account forms so they can open up new accounts instantaneously and make same day trades that used to take up to two weeks.

Citrix access infrastructure is sold as the Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite. Each component solves a particular access challenge for an organization, while all of the components work together seamlessly to power the on-demand enterprise able to respond to and anticipate any business problem or unplanned interruption.
