Philippine Airlines Protects Network with the Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance and VPN Gateway from Secure Computing

SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 8, 2004 -- Secure Computing Corporation (NASDAQ:SCUR), the experts in securing connections between people, applications, and networks(TM), today announced that Philippine Airlines has deployed Secure's Sidewinder G2(TM) Security Appliance and SoftRemote(R) VPN client software to provide worldwide VPN capabilities for their remote sales offices and external partners.

Airlines the world over are taking a closer look at their security. In addition to physical security at the airports themselves, network security is also more important now than it has ever been.

Philippine Airlines (PAL) selected the Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance and Virtual Private Network (VPN) because the Sidewinder provides PAL with an powerful, multi-layered, network shield without sacrificing performance or ease of use. Sidewinder's hybrid architecture encompasses the entire range of firewall mechanisms including stateful inspection, application proxies, application filters, secured servers, and real-time alerts in one simple, cost-effective firewall appliance. One or many Sidewinder firewalls can be centrally managed from any Windows platform, anywhere.

"Sidewinder is a no-nonsense, hybrid firewall that can secure critical resources on the network a lot better than the other firewall products we considered," said Alejandro Sol Cruz, Jr., manager of I/S security and Internet services at Philippines Airlines. "In addition to the peace of mind Sidewinder's hybrid design brings, the system also brings considerable cost savings in the area of telecommunications expenditures, since the VPN connections use the Internet, instead of expensive leased lines or dial-in connections, remote connectivity is a lot less expensive."

SoftRemote, which is tightly integrated with Sidewinder, establishes a VPN that allows PAL to provide its remote sales offices and business partners around the world with secure and controlled access to the specific resources they need. SoftRemote is a software package that lets remote users safely connect to the internal network, using any type of Internet connection.

"Organizations like Philippine Airlines rely on the Internet to cost-effectively establish reliable communication lines between their partners and remote sites," said Vince Schiavo, senior vice president, worldwide sales and marketing at Secure Computing. "We are committed to providing our customers with industry-leading firewall and content filtering solutions to secure communication lines, protect corporate information resources and ensure productive use of the Internet."
