Cingular Wireless Names Kelly King Vice President and General Manager of Greater Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 4, 2004 -- King one of 27 VP/GMs named as part of new leadership team after merger with AT&T Wireless
Cingular Wireless has named Kelly King as Vice President and General Manager of Greater Los Angeles, which is part of the company's new West Region. The newly combined company is now the country's biggest wireless provider with more than 46 million customers and has the largest digital voice and data network in the nation.
In his new role, King will be responsible for Cingular's operations in the Greater Los Angeles area, including Central California. He will oversee all business and financial matters for the designated markets in his region.
"Kelly has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the wireless industry, and I can think of no better person to manage this expanded region and lead its success in the future," said Brian Shay, West Region President of Cingular Wireless. "He will make the strategic decisions and execute plans that deliver wireless innovation to consumers in this part of the country while leveraging advantages of the merger."
Prior to his role as Cingular's Vice President and General Manager for Greater Los Angeles, King was Vice President and General Manager with SBC Wireless, responsible for all aspects of wireless operations in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. With more than 15 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, King joined Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1990, which later became part of SBC Communications. His diverse background includes leadership responsibilities in sales, marketing, network, customer service, finance and operations.
King holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and an MBA with an emphasis in Finance from St. Louis University.
