Technology and Work Schedule Allow City Council Member to Succeed in New Career

GREEN BAY, Wis., May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Husband and wife team drivers Wayne and Catherine Goodnature have taken full advantage of the benefits that come with being a part of Schneider National, North America's largest truckload carrier.
Since embarking on their new driving career in March, the Goodnatures have traveled the country together while staying active in their local community.
Wayne, a former police officer and current at-large member of the city council in Austin, Minn., stays connected to his hometown by taking advantage of the tools provided by Schneider National to help drivers keep in touch while on the road. The tools include in-cab e-mail and reduced rates for long-distance calls.
"Schneider National makes it easy for me to stay in touch with folks in Austin and I can arrange my driving schedule to attend all city council meetings," said Wayne. "It's a win-win situation. I can serve the city, see the country and spend time with Catherine. It's great!"
Schneider National's commitment to safety was a major deciding factor when the Goodnatures were seeking to begin a second career together.
"It was really important to Wayne and me that we work for a company that values the safety of its drivers and the public," said Catherine, who owned a computer store with her husband before becoming a professional truck driver.
To help deal with the challenges that professional truck drivers face on the road, Schneider National offers company-paid driver training. The Goodnatures participated in three weeks of classroom and over-the-road training and were required to meet a variety of performance standards before earning their commercial driver licenses.
Trucking is a fulfilling and rewarding career for the Goodnatures.
"We encourage anyone considering a second career or looking for a new challenge and a sense of adventure to pursue opportunities in the trucking industry," said Catherine. "Most people are surprised when I tell them what I do, but the variety, adventure and challenge make it all worthwhile."
