FiberNet Selects Lucent Technologies to Provide Next-Generation Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Solutions

MURRAY HILL, N.J., May 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Lucent Technologies today announced that FiberNet, a West-Virginia-based telecommunications company has selected Lucent's Accelerate(TM) Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solution to provide VoIP solutions over Broadband connections to residential customers in West Virginia and to offer new services to its strong embedded base of business and state government customers.

Lucent's Accelerate(TM) solution allows FiberNet to provide its customers -- both large and small -- with IP Centrex applications such as voice virtual private networks, virtual contact centers, unified communications, and key features that customers have come to rely on including caller ID, call transfer and conference calling.
"FiberNet is the first telecommunications company in West Virginia to be able to provide VoIP services to business and residential customers," said Virgil Parsons, president and chief operating officer. "Over the last several years, we've been the leader in introducing new technologies and competitive telecommunications services to West Virginia, and we're very proud to again demonstrate our commitment to innovation by enabling our customers to use existing Broadband connectivity for a wide range of telephony options."
The VoIP services are available over cable modem, DSL, T1 and Ethernet connections.
"Lucent's Accelerate(TM) solution leverages FiberNet's existing network equipment while enabling them to offer services only a next-generation network can provide," said Gerry Cafaro, Lucent Technologies vice president for sales. "This win is another example of Lucent's building presence in the VoIP space utilizing technology that bridges the gap between legacy voice equipment and the converged world that is emerging."
Lucent Worldwide Services provided network integration services, as well as ongoing technical services support.
