California Democratic Party Unveils Enhanced Web Technology by Kintera

SAN DIEGO --(Business Wire)-- May 5, 2004 -- Innovative software as a service provider builds web infrastructure for nation's largest state party to increase activism, donations and awareness

From Presidential candidates to party headquarters, the Internet is playing its largest role ever in the 2004 election process. The California Democratic Party, with a renewed focus on enhancing interaction with supporters and increasing activism in the state, today announced that Kintera(R) Inc. (Nasdaq:KNTA) is providing the organization with leading edge software for its new website and online initiatives. Technology developed by Kintera, an innovative provider of software as a service to nonprofits and political candidates, is being used by the California Democratic Party to build grassroots-level support, increase activism and spur donations via its website at www.cadem.org.

"With Kintera's technology, we can now better leverage the Internet to build grassroots support and increase donations," said Senator Art Torres, (Ret.), Chairman. "The California Democratic Party is very pleased with the positive response to our enhanced online presence. Since our site went live on February 25th, we've already experienced a 50% increase in traffic from the previous month. Our new website is invaluable in communicating with constituents as we move towards the national convention in July, and the Presidential election in November."

After an extensive review of technologies, the California Democratic Party -- the nation's largest state party -- selected Kintera's software platform, Kintera Sphere(TM), to provide proven web-based applications such as:

-- CMS Website -- The organization's new content management system (CMS) site was launched February 25, 2004, in time for the California Primary -- just three weeks after the contract was signed with Kintera. One of the only political organizations in the U.S. to swap their news content on a daily basis, the California Democratic Party staff can easily update content and keep the site's information fresh and active without HTML experience or the need for additional IT personnel.

-- Blog -- The organization's new website offers full blog (online journal) capabilities, allowing greater communication between the party and its constituents. Bob Mullholland, political strategist to the California State Democratic Party, is writing daily blog entries.

-- Advocacy -- Online advocacy tools personalize content for supporters and give them the opportunity to do a myriad of web-based actions easily and effectively, as well as donate securely online. On the California Democratic Party's website, visitors will soon be able to join specific advocacy campaigns of interest, sign up to receive regular email alerts or send email petitions regarding the Party's initiatives and views.

-- Polling -- The organization is using the Kintera poll software as an interactive engagement tool on their site, offering a quick snapshot of the opinions of party supporters.

-- eNewsletter -- Party members can opt-in to receive a weekly newsletter featuring a letter from Party Chairman Art Torres, a roundup of the weekly political news, a cartoon and poll.

Torres said that the new Kintera software used by the California Democratic Party will be useful long after the election in November. "There will still be a great need for advocacy and activism," says Torres. "We're here for the long haul."

"Reaching out to voters via the Internet has become a necessity in the eyes of political parties and their candidates," says Dr. Harry Gruber, CEO and co-founder of Kintera, which has helped thousands of nonprofits raise awareness and funds. "What the political world has learned in the last year is that the web offers the easiest and fastest way to connect with an audience, build awareness and deliver information."
